What Happens When Republicans Simply Refuse to Certify Democratic Wins? | Washington Monthly by David Atkins 1/ washingtonmonthly.com/2021/05/08/wha…
“So what happens in 2024 if President Biden or VP Harris win the Electoral College, but local Rs on county boards w/ majority Dem votes refuse to certify the election; when state legislatures who have seized control of certification refuse to certify their state tallies; … 2/
… when a potential Republican majority in the House of Representatives refuses to certify the Electoral College tally?” 3/
My own belief: we must try to confirm the legitimacy of the unexpected Republican House and Senate wins. We do not have enough senate seats, including, at a minimum, the GOP’s unexpected Senate victories in Maine and NC. 4/
We must focus on Florida & Texas too. FL’s Republican Governor and Secretary of State are fighting a lawsuit that seeks to enjoin them from destroying ballot images, which are automatically generated by most optical & digital scanners as they count paper ballots. 5/
Florida’s purported “manual” audit and “manual” recount laws are a scam. We cannot trust the state’s results. I wrote about much of this here. 6/ link.medium.com/KuNYe4hy4gb
Texas is a bad joke re: election security. It has allowed ES&S to conduct its own has testing for years, which is shady AF. Hash testing is the crucial process that local election officials should use to confirm that a vendor hasn’t installed malicious software. 7/
I wrote about ES&S conducting its own hash testing (a fox guarding the henhouse) here. @EACgov secretly investigated ES&S 40 days b4 the 2020 election but won’t produce documents about it. Texas has withheld public records too. 8/ whowhatwhy.org/2021/03/08/ele…
We must get to the bottom of all of this NOW. We may never have another chance. What if the GOP hacked some of these elections and we never bothered to look? Why wouldn’t we at least look? Don’t we owe ourselves & our kids & grandkids that much? 9/
Look at this chart. Come on, Folks. It may be perfectly legitimate. But what if it isn’t and we never looked to find out? 10/
Maine, where Susan Collins unexpectedly won her Senate race, has a Democratic Governor and a Dem state legislature. The state does not currently conduct election audits at all, altho hopes to move that way. But Collins’s unexpected win was NOT audited. 11/ pressherald.com/2021/04/05/bil…
I believe Maine uses only ES&S and #HandMarkedPaperBallots which would make it ideal for auditing. (My desk top is down and I can’t check Verified Voting’s verifier on my phone) 12/
“Close to Election Day, Collins sat 5.5 percentage points behind Gideon in a RealClearPolitics average and the incumbent had just a 33 percent chance at keeping her seat, according to a Decision Desk HQ model.” 14/ bangordailynews.com/2020/11/05/pol…
The official electronic vote tally gave Collins the win by 9 points. 15/
I mentioned Maine’s Democratic legislature and Governor bc this means that we would have a better chance than in Republican-controlled states of persuading the legislature to do it - or, worst cast, persuading election officials to let us do it. 18/
Rs have engaged in a coverup re: Manafort’s interactions w/ Deripaska & Kilimnik (a Russian intelligence officer who rec’d Trump campaign polling data from Manafort). Manafort was TFG’s campaign manager. If Rs are so sure there was “no collusion,” what are they hiding?! 1/
Someone asked me if I’d ever appear on Steve Bannon’s show to discuss election security. I said “not in a million years.” He said “the right seems always willing to debate the left, but not vice versa.” I told him that meaningful debate requires good faith participants. 1/
Otherwise, “debate” is just another platform for bad faith actors to elevate themselves and spread disinformation. 2/
Bannon has bragged about “flooding the zone with shit.” There is no good faith commitment to truth. I would never appear on his show. 3/
To de-program people who’ve been fooled by disinformation, it’s “important that the corrective information be repeated as frequently, and with even greater clarity, than the myth.” 1/ news.northeastern.edu/2018/06/18/tir…
IMO, repeating the mantra that this was “the most secure election ever” does not provide sufficient clarity to debunk baseless claims by TFG and his allies. Krebs must be specific and clearly explain how he knows that vote tallies weren’t changed. 2/
If he can’t or won’t do that, then that is a problem. 3/
The most infamous politically motivated prosecution occurred when the Bush DOJ locked up @DonSiegelman, Alabama’s last Democratic Governor. Eric Holder (Obama/Biden admin) looked the other way, an ominous precedent 4 recent revelations re: Trump’s DOJ. 1/ link.medium.com/9ez6Csyq0gb
Even Republicans thought it was politically motivated. The best guess for Holder’s inaction is that he was too afraid to right an obvious wrong against a fellow Democrat. 2/
“I personally believe that what happened here is that they targeted Don Siegelman because they could not beat him fair and square. This was a Republican state and he was the one Democrat they could never get rid of.” - Grant Woods, Republican (former Arizona AG). 3/
