Lots of numbers, very confusing yes, I know. So let me try & break down our expose for you all. If any doubts, pls don't hesitate to ask.

Crux: 252 unexplained deaths on average EVERY SINGLE DAY in May 2021 in #Chennai alone.

I'll tell you how I calculated this. #Thread (1/n)

1. Got into Chennai Corporation site & pulled out all death certificates issued to male/female/transgender persons. This was done for EACH DAY from May 1, 2021 to May 31, 2021. Total death certificates issued in May 2021 by GCC = 15,920 @IndiaAheadNews @mkstalin @RAKRI1 (2/n)

2. Now we need to compare this raw data. Same exercise done for May 1 to May 31, 2020 (first wave). That worked out to 6559 death certificates in total issued in May 2020. @Subramanian_ma @GSBediIAS (3/n)

3. But in 2020 & in 2021, deaths included Covid & deaths by natural causes/accidents/suicides. So how do we filter out the natural causes? Death certificates issued in May 2019, a non-Covid year give a clue. Total of 5735 death certificates issued in May 2019. (4/n)

4. Now we divide the total by 31 (days in May) to get the average death rates. Also compiled the Covid death figures given specifically for Chennai by govt in May 2021. In May 2020, the govt had given numbers for entire state & no specific info about Chennai. (5/n)

5. This is what we get when we calculate average death per day. Correct it for the 2019 figures which are normal deaths. 252 DEATHS PER DAY ON AVG IN CHENNAI IN MAY 2021. That's at least 3X the Covid deaths announced by govt. How can this be explained? (6/n)

6. Here's the chart when you compare May 2021, 2020 and 2019. Remember in 2019, accident deaths would be a good proportion of total deaths. Not so in 2020 & 2021 when we were locked down. (7/n)

7. And finally, compare the number of death certificates issued in May with the number of Covid deaths announced by the state government. The truth, as always lies somewhere in between these two line graphs. But closer to the RED graph. (8/n)

8. And finally - govts MUST tell the truth. There is no point hiding deaths. SARI deaths, prolonged hospitalisation & eventual death, cardiac arrests are not counted as Covid deaths. People will get compensation only if the truth is told & deaths are tagged as Covid deaths. (n/n)
