My birth name was Peter Ari Moskowitz. My father changed our last name to Morley because he didn't want his children to experience the antisemitism he experienced in eastern Europe during the Holocaust where he "passed" for German & saved many lives.
I don't talk about this, but my father was a hero. He had forged documents, spoke fluent German, had blonde hair, but was a Jewish man from Hungary. He and his younger brother, my Uncle Tommy, saved people from going to Concentration Camps.
It was PAINFUL for him to speak about.
I never got full details. My father passed away in 2004. But he would give me bits & pieces. It seemed so unreal to me. My maternal grandparents met in a Concentration Camp, and they were the same way, the pain was torturous for them to broach the subject. Sadly, I'll never know.

It's #Pride month & I want to share a story of growing up as a #LGBTQ teenager during the 1980's in NYC at the height of the AIDS pandemic.
I came out at 15 years old. This was considered to be young in 1985. But, I couldn't keep my story to myself, and told my family & friends.
My family & friends were supportive of me coming out to them. My mom had an exceptionally emotional reaction. Not because she didn't support my feelings, but since a disproportionate amount of Americans happened to be gay men contracting AIDS. It seemed, like a death sentence. 💔
My mom and I had a really long, open and honest conversation about safe sex, using condoms, protecting myself, and that she would support me, because I was her son. She was proud of me for confiding this in her. I didn't realize how big of a deal it was at the time. But it was.🕊️
Take a trip with me with gratitude and these are just some of the members of Congress I met with to #ProtectOurCare in 2019.
Ready? Let's take a trip around the country and give thanks for the Reps fighting for our #PreExistingConditions protections.(Thread)

Before we begin this journey, I want to remember the late great Congressman Cummings.
He thanked me in July for taking my pain, turning it into a passion, to do my purpose. I will never forget those words, nor will I forget the Congressman. #RestInPower

Meeting Speaker Pelosi was truly a surreal experience.
One of the most compassionate people I've met on the Hill.
She has plenty of gratitude, grace, & is humble. She is also a fierce fighter.
Which goes to show, that you can multi-task in the fight to #ProtectOurCare
🚨🚨The lies about the Trump Administration wanting to #ProtectOurCare stop TODAY! The dismantling of the law of the land has been going on since day 1 of this Administration to remove protections for 130M w/#PreExistingConditions
After failing to repeal the #ACA in Congress in 2017, in 2/2018, 18 @GOP AG's & 2 GOP Governors Filed a Lawsuit to Repeal the #ACA in the U.S. Northern District of TX. 2/
.@GOP officials claim since #ACA’s individual mandate fine was repealed in 2017 tax law, the mandate can no longer be considered a “tax.” b/c of this change, they argue the mandate is now unconstitutional & the entire ACA must be struck down.
