Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day & to recognize this occasion, we're highlighting Indigenous cultural organizations across the country, many with whom we are privileged to work. We encourage you to like, share, & follow them!

1) @CurveLakeFN Cultural Centre (📍Curve Lake, ON) supports the understanding of community culture, language, history while caring for cultural items & an archive related to the community & Kinomaage-Waapking (Teaching Rocks) Petroglyph site, which is community-managed! #NIPD2021

We're grateful to @CurveLakeFN Cultural Centre for helping us build strong relationships w/ First Nations on whose territories the Museum resides!
We also acknowledge & are committed to including local water-related challenges (ex: boil water advisories) in new exhibits #NIPD2021

2) Saahlinda Naay (Saving Things House) @HaidaMuseum (📍Kay Llnagaay [Sea Lion Town], Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, BC) inspires understanding of respect for all that Haida Gwaii is & puts the Haida concept of yahguudang.gang (respect) into operation as a museum! #NIPD2021

The @HaidaMuseum's rich collections include natural history, archaeological material, & cultural treasures, cared for according to Haida protocols.

We are grateful to be working with the staff at Saahlinda Naay (@HaidaMuseum) to understand #Haida canoe-making and using traditions as we plan to interpret Victor Adams’ Eagle #Canoe made for the Kirk Wipper (Kanawa Museum) in 1970, in our new exhibits.

3) Pitquhirnikkut Ilihautiniq / Kitikmeot Heritage Centre (📍Cambridge Bay, Nunavut):

The Centre is dedicated to supporting the renewal of @inuinnait culture and language (Inuinnaqtun) in the Central Canadian #Arctic region.

.@inuinnait runs knowledge transfer workshops linking Elders & youth, & supports Elders-in Residence, documentary video training & language learning!

We're grateful that they met with us early in our journey to reach out to Indigenous communities & provided feedback. #NIPD2021
