So the first time my parents went to Yellowstone, they turned a corner and saw a bear sitting on top of a Volkswagon Bug. They threw a peanut butter cookie out to lure the bear away from the car. That driver PEELED out.
And the bear decided that one cookie was not enough.
Mom tells the story that the bear slipped its claws in the top of the window right by her head and she was frantically ordering my brothers to find another cookie while Dad stood on the other side of the car taking pictures. I'm sure this story is greatly exaggerated.
Anyway they could only find Saltines and the bear didn't want no Saltine.
So there's Mom yelling for Dad to get in the car and get them out of there and the bear trying to break the window out to get another peanut butter cookie and my brothers frantically searching for cookies
I used to remember a lot more dreams, good and bad, from my childhood. Last year I realized, rather shocked, that I can't remember most of them anymore, and there was something depressing about that. I keep trying to catch the tails of them but they disappear too fast.
~ H O W E V E R ~ I do still remember the worst nightmare I ever had, which caused my mom to refuse to let me sleep on the floor in hotel rooms anymore (I liked to build nests and sleep in them rather than share a bed with my sister, so this was a real blow!)
In this dream, a man in a black-and-white striped suit, who had something like a bowling ball for a head, had taken over our basement. I think he must've been killing off my family members and nobody would believe me that he was down there.
It's not Ponda Baba's arm, and even the EU got it wrong. But no judgment, because we've all spent 4 decades thinking it was Ponda Baba's arm because the sleeve is the same color. I only just realized this tonight analyzing it.
In the 1976 novelization, Luke is attacked by a trio at the bar: "a large squarish monstrosity...a thing--a cross between a capybara and a small baboon...a short, grubby-looking human."
We would come to know them as Ponda Baba, Kabe the Chadra-fan, and Evazan.
In the novelization, Ben cuts off Evazan's arm and slices Ponda Baba Kabe in half. They even got as far as sculpting the carnage, tho by the final edit, Ben's response is scaled back and he only chops off someone's arm. Due to the orange sleeve, we've all assumed it was Ponda's.
@Kylfthean@Resist_Disney All right, since you're so bound and determined to take it here, six tweets to follow:
@Kylfthean@Resist_Disney I actually don't accept any of that, which is why I'm refusing to let people get away with painting one of the three most significant events in Star Wars history with that brush. The book is not rapey. I don't know where you get off asserting that I agreed with that adjective.
@Kylfthean@Resist_Disney Xizor isn't primarily a rapist. He's highly sexed, but it's clear that his conquests are by consent. If all seductions=rape, then Barney Stinson is a rapist; HIMYM should be condemned! Xizor behaves despicably but isn't presented sympathetically (unlike Barney). No glorification.
Why do I love the Galactic Empire? Because Imperial rule is the only government that makes sense for a territory that is both vaster & more diverse than we can imagine on Earth. Because a federally-styled empire demonstrably improves quality of life & stability for its citizens.
"But they're evil! 😩"
Wrong. Emperor Palpatine, as a Sith, was obsessive, grasping, and destructive, but his model of government worked. Individuals were corrupt, but under the Imperial system, there were fewer corrupt individuals & they had less power than in the Old Republic.
"But they're RACIST! 😱"
False. Again, some individuals--like Tarkin--exhibited racism. But Lucas had to be aware of what the books were publishing about "Palpatine the racist" and he clearly overwrote it in the PT. There was no government policy favoring any racial supremacy.
