@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney I actually don't accept any of that, which is why I'm refusing to let people get away with painting one of the three most significant events in Star Wars history with that brush. The book is not rapey. I don't know where you get off asserting that I agreed with that adjective.
@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney Xizor isn't primarily a rapist. He's highly sexed, but it's clear that his conquests are by consent. If all seductions=rape, then Barney Stinson is a rapist; HIMYM should be condemned! Xizor behaves despicably but isn't presented sympathetically (unlike Barney). No glorification.
@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney Yes, he uses pheromones to manipulate specifically Leia into sleeping with him, but this isn't presented as his standard operating procedure. Actually the book makes note that some of his mistresses are so anxious to be with him that he has to murder them to get them off his back
@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney All of his behavior is despicable. He is a despicable villain. His primary power is his wealth and influence. Just because all you remember is sex pheromones doesn't mean the author somehow can't write a convincing villain; it just means you can't read or have a poor memory.
@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney His capture & attempted seduction of Leia is a subplot same as her capture and subjection to slavery in ROTJ. In both cases, she turns the enemy's weapon against him, incapacitating Xizor and killing Jabba. It's a relatively minor portion of the book but it shows Leia's strength.
@Kylfthean @Resist_Disney My childhood is irrelevant; I mentioned the age at which I read it, and that as a woman I had no problem sharing it with a loved one, because for a quarter of a century, before culture went batshit insane, we all understood what we were reading without making everything a crisis.
