Latest arrest by US Justice Dept sheds new light on the terror members of the media faced on Jan 6
Shane Woods is charged w/ menacing media on East front of Capitol, then tackling photographer who was working
But there's more ... much more
(thread)
Feds allege the mob heckled, taunted and spit upon members of the media outside the Capitol
Other media outlets had to abandoned their equipment.. as the mob circled and destroyed what was left behind
There were reports of attempts to set some of the equipment on fire
Dollar amounts of the damage.. for just one media organization ===>
One videographer who was positioned on East front of Capitol tells me he was menaced for hours... then finally bolted w/ his equipment when things got too intense
Then an attorney for one of the most prominent defendants of all..... blames the media for what happened that day ==>
Judge says McHugh appears to have worked hard to get to the front of mob, riled up crowd (using megaphone) so much so that he had them in a chant response. She asks defense lawyer if McHugh was a leader on Jan 6
Attorney for Jan 6 defendant Doug Jensen says "crowd hysteria" coupled w/"information that was promulgated over internet & news, brought about event that would never have happened
He says Jensen is "intelligent man" .. "he got taken!"
Ahh.... but moments later his lawyer says Jensen didn’t even know where he was on Jan 6. “He thought he was at the White House”
Interesting back and forth here. Defense lawyer says Jensen deserves credit for not pushing past the solitary Capitol Police Officer (Eugene Goodman) on Jan 6
Prosecutor responds: That’s because Officer had to keep retreating
Standby. More news coming. The first sentencing hearing in a Jan 6 case is about to begin. Lower level case. But our first sample of how judges will handle *some* of these cases
Anna Morgan Lloyd (49 y/o of Indiana). Guilty plea to count four of her charges. Unlawful picketing/parading. Max sentence is six months. But Feds aren’t requesting jail. Standby by more ....
As we reported on @nbcwashington last week, prosecutors are recommending three years probation. Morgan Lloyd is seeking community service and a fine. Let’s see which way the judge leans ...
!!! Alert. Jan 6 defendant and accused OathKeeper conspirator Graydon Young tells judge he will plead guilty. And will cooperate with prosecutors and testify before grand jury
This is big win for FBI which has made clear that far right groups are priority of investigation
NEW: Defense lawyer for so-called "QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley files another motion to get him released from jail in Jan 6 case
It's... unlike others I've seen
Including allegation that US Justice Dept is taking power away from frontline prosecutors to cut plea deals
(more)
Chansley's defense lawyer also argues the feds are inappropriately citing Chansley's "Shaman" beliefs in arguments to hold him ... and attorney makes this comparison ==>
As others have.... Chansley's lawyer says his client traveled to the Capitol at what was understood to be "the request of then President Trump"
Another set of videos in Jan 6 *could* be coming soon. Brian Mock is accused of assaulting police at Capitol (after making a visit to World War II Memorial) In court hearing just now, Mock’s attorney says he won’t oppose public release of video in case
Prosecutors say Mock kicked police during assault
DC police body cam video. Judge says a screenshot shows man with knee raised ... Feds allege Mock kicked officer
