1) United Spirits was started as McDowell & Co. by Angus McDowell in the year 1826 and catered to Britishers' needs for tobacco & alcoholic.
2) Today, it is the second-largest exporter of alcoholic beverages in the world.
3) Vittal Mallya (Father of @TheVijayMallya ) who ran United Breweries, acquired McDowell & Co in 1951.
4) After taking over the McDowell & Co, Vittal Mallya started the first distillery and began manufacturing Biscuit Brandy and Darville French Brandy in Kerala.
5) United Spirits's first-ever in-house product, the Golden Grape Brandy, was launched in 1962.
6) In 1968, they launched McDowell's No.1 whisky, which became their flagship brand.
7) For 3 years, from 1977 to 1980, Vittal Mallya went on scouting locations to set up distilleries and plants.
8) In 1983, the sudden death of Vittal Mallya got his son Vijay Mallya into business.
9) United Spirits got its current name after the merger with 8 global spirit companies in 2005.
10) In 2010, United Spirits Limited acquired Balaji Distilleries limited. This addition proved to be an advantage to consolidate the group's dominance in the state of Tamil Nadu.
11) In 2012-13, Vijay Mallya sold a controlling stake in USL to British giant Diageo Plc. Mallya continued to hold approx 11% stake.
12) In 2016, Vijay Mallaya, Chairman, quit the position. Diageo took USL for $75 million and released him of all the liabilities.
13) After his resignation, Mallya's son, Sidharth Mallya, was retained as a Director of the USL firm group that runs the RCB cricket team.
14) The last hearing of the Vijay Mallya extradition case got the values of the liquor companies to over a total market cap of ~84K crores.
15) United Spirits Limited's strong market position in the domestic spirits industry is backed by its large distribution network, extensive product portfolio, and presence across price points, flavors, and segments.
16) Today, USL has distilleries and sales offices all across India, and the company comprises 7500+ employees.
17) USL's portfolio comprises several brands such as McDowell's No.1, Royal Challenge, Signature, Antiquity, etc.
18) USL has received recognition for its quality from independent panels worldwide such as International Wine & Spirits Competition (UK), International Spirits Challenge (UK), World Beverage Competition (US), Monde Quality Institute (Belgium), and Mundusvini (Germany).
19) In India, USL imports, manufactures and sells Diageo's iconic brands like VAT 69, Black & White, Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, and Ciroc.
20) They export their products to over 37 countries and are the world's second-largest spirits company by volume.
21) Today with 62 manufacturing units, United Spirits Limited has unit and bottling plants in almost every Indian state and they have built a strong distribution network for the delivery pan-India.

2)However, he came from the respected Cholayil family of Ayurvedic practitioners and also had a deep knowledge of Ayurveda.
3) Dr. VP Sidhan saw that the workers who cleaned waste off the railway tracks suffered from several skin diseases.
4) He felt really bad for them and started giving them an Ayurvedic oil to cure their skin diseases.
