Greybeard #NIH grant reviewer here. Most Specific Aims pages only make sense after reading the rest of the grant. The Aims page needs to stand alone and make sense. All info that reader needs to understand that page needs to be ON THAT PAGE. Yes, It's not easy.
More about this page: NEVER fill with wall to wall words, use tabs/spacing liberally, highlight 'phrase that pays' for tired reviewer, have small figure/schematic (yes, at expense of words), end page with "Upon completion, we will...", and add title (meaningful) on top of page.
Citations ok, especially if citing own work that led to proposal (don't believe previous greybeards). Referring to Figs also ok, but only once/twice. After reading whole thing, rev'rs always return to this page and Fig cues help. And those non-standard abbreviations? No. Just NO.
