"You missed some things. Some really important key events." That's what a source told me after reading my book last year. Humbling as an author and, as I shared on #MorningJoe, why the new paperback details what I learned: Trump would've separated far more kids if he could have.
Truth is, after the first edition of the book came out, there was still so much I didn’t know despite all the reporting I’d done. I share what new sources helped me understand in the all-new afterword of the updated paperback edition. Hope you’ll read it. amzn.to/3w2fNBB

Hi! Paperback of "Separated: Inside an American Tragedy" is in stores this Tuesday 6/29, with new afterword about Biden immigration agenda, and effort to reunite families separated by Trump policy. On way to ship advance signed copies - have extra. Will send to first 5 who DM me.
That was amazingly fast. Books headed to Rhode Island, Georgia (two copies), California, and D.C. Going to do the same over on my IG if you weren't in the first five.
Ok — the IG copies are spoken for, too. En route to Texas, Michigan, Utah, Illinois and (again!) California. Thanks so much for your interest. Means a lot.
While here in El Paso, @VP is meeting with Border Patrol’s Gloria Chavez, who was a key figure in Trump admin’s family separations. Emails show CBP leadership asked her for answers on 2017 pilot program and that she sparred with HHS about how to care for separated kids in 2018.
TONIGHT: New episode of “Street Level U.S.A.” airs at 9PM ET on @TheChoice on @peacockTV. We report on the ground (and from a bridge, boat, EV and more) about the Biden infrastructure proposal, who would benefit and who might get left behind. Also airs Sunday 10PM ET on @MSNBC.
We previewed tonight’s show this morning on @3rdHourTODAY, sharing the story of the new 6th Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, and how some worry about the bridge’s impact on the Boyle Heights community.
Hope you’ll join us tonight on @peacockTV and Sunday night on @MSNBC.
NEW: 2,100 families separated by Trump admin haven’t been reunited, according to Biden admin. Hundreds haven’t been located. We joined nonprofit @SenecaFOA on their cross-country search as they went door-door-door to find them and offer mental healthcare.
Here’s the backstory on how the Trump admin tried to stop these mental health services from being offered in the first place. nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1…
NEW: More than 2,100 children separated by Trump admin 'have not yet been reunified,' Biden task force says. Only seven children have rejoined their families since Biden took office earlier this year, and 29 more will "in the coming weeks," per report. nbcnews.com/news/all/more-…
A senior DHS official, in a call with reporters, blamed “numerous errors and misinformation” in data kept by the Trump administration for the cumbersome reunification process. “No comprehensive interagency system was in place to separate parents and their migrant children."
“Would we have liked them to move quicker? Yes. Do they need to move at a much more rapid pace? Absolutely,” said @leegelernt of the ACLU. “Could it have been done with a snap of the fingers? No. It is complex.”
