NEW: 2,100 families separated by Trump admin haven’t been reunited, according to Biden admin. Hundreds haven’t been located. We joined nonprofit @SenecaFOA on their cross-country search as they went door-door-door to find them and offer mental healthcare.

NEW: More than 2,100 children separated by Trump admin 'have not yet been reunified,' Biden task force says. Only seven children have rejoined their families since Biden took office earlier this year, and 29 more will "in the coming weeks," per report.…
A senior DHS official, in a call with reporters, blamed “numerous errors and misinformation” in data kept by the Trump administration for the cumbersome reunification process. “No comprehensive interagency system was in place to separate parents and their migrant children."
“Would we have liked them to move quicker? Yes. Do they need to move at a much more rapid pace? Absolutely,” said @leegelernt of the ACLU. “Could it have been done with a snap of the fingers? No. It is complex.”

NEW: @DHSOIG says Trump administration "removed at least 348 parents separated from their children without documenting that those parents wanted to leave" kids behind in U.S. and some records didn't say if ICE first "gave the parent the option to reunify."…
H/T to @Haleaziz who is going through the report here:
"In some cases, ICE removed separated parents without their children even though ICE officers effecting their removal knew the parents wanted to bring their children with them." (Page 10)

The same month, we traveled to Tijuana with @GuerlineMJozef who introduced me to Haitian families stuck in Tijuana, unable to seek relief in the U.S.

Reaction here from one of nurse Wooten’s lawyers.
“We have an obligation to make lasting improvements to our civil immigration detention system,” said @SecMayorkas. “This marks an important first step to realizing that goal.”

Today DHS also announced it will discontinue the use of another ICE dentition center in MA.

While we're talking bipartisan commissions, a reminder lawmakers including @AOC called for one to investigate Trump's forced separation of over 5,500 parents from kids, called "torture" by @P4HR and "government-sanctioned child abuse" by @AmerAcadPeds.…
This month @SecMayorkas told me accountability for those responsible for separations could be looked at by the Biden reunification task force when it’s “far further along” in the process of putting families back together.
President Biden himself called the policy "criminal" in the final debate with President Trump, and said there would be a "thorough, thorough investigation" of it as President-Elect.
