Yesterday was the kind of day in #NYC that future generations will talk about, like the WWII V-Day celebrations. #pride is always a fun time here (except last year obviously). But this was like a collective sigh followed by a love filled wholesome celebration. And so chill!
Other days when the streets of Manhattan are filled, like NYE, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Pattys, etc, mostly chill but there will still be some little tensions and jostling and occasional curses and "I'M WALKIN' HERE"s

Never at #pride

Except from the police.
It's like some elements of the NYPD are keen to do a small historical reenactment every year of what started the Stonewall Riots in the first place - police unfairly and violently going after queer folk in the West Village.

It is such an act of petulance by them. Every year!
The #pride crowd is so well behaved (unless you are offended by bare breasts and buttocks, which btw are legal in NYC) that there is no possible public safety reason for the NYPD to even be there in such large numbers. They keep waiting for a serious excuse to charge in.
But by late afternoon, the #NYCPride crowd is still too well behaved. So they use technically correct but contextually idiotic reasons like "blocked intersection" and start a thing and then arrest people. Every year. Just to flex.

I cut marks from my undergrad students' assignment graphs if they use raw count as Y-axis just to make their numbers look better when percentage gives a more accurate picture of reality. Also if they exclude a China sized observation on the X-axis just to embellish their story.
UK with 66 million people has only administered 70 million doses? Germany with a population of 80 million has only administered 70 million doses? US with a population of 330 million has only administered 330 million doses? What losers! Look at India!
Rest of the world is treating this pandemic like a pandemic. Modi is treating it like Bigg Boss ka ghar, showing off some milestone achievement everyday.

Teaching a Marketing Intro Class on Zoom to high school students today and I just got a copy of my Background Check (which you have to undergo by law here to work with kids in any way). And it is fun to read your own background check! Especially when it is so pristine. 😂
Not my first one btw. I've taught and volunteered with kids before and background check is standard. This was just the first time I had the option of getting a copy emailed to me. 😁
Finalizing the ppt for this class for high schoolers and I think I've gone so much in the "lemme give these kids more than just PowerPoint visuals and bullet points" direction that I might come across as this guy. 😂😂

It is not the norm but there are definitely more people than you'd think who do it. Heck, there have been a few documentaries about that.
There are two distinct sets in this as I've seen. One - very orthodox ones who brainwash or pressure their children into it. I know of stories where brothers have threatened emancipation to parents if they kept trying to make their sisters get an arranged marriage.
Second are the "born-again brahmins". They led a typical American social life but had a couple of bad breakups and decided, fuck it, I've been told all my life we bommins are best so I'm just gonna try that like my friends who turn to the bible. They jump back into the rituals.

And #NYCPride is on the move towards Stonewall. 😍😍😍
This is one parade in the city that never has a word of anger uttered.
This is my favorite picture of the day 😍🌈
One thing I love about Americans is the even in a dense crowd, everyone is always trying to respect each other's space as much as possible. No shoulder to shoulder contact unless absolutely necessary and even then, apologetically.

One of the reasons I'm on twitter is KD busting emotional myths with simple facts. The uncles outraging at him are the same who got upset at me 20 years ago for saying that lot was better from anyone in the 70s except Gavaskar. Saying Dravid was better than Vishy got em so angry!
Public losing their heads at @cricketingview for observing from clear evidence that this generation of a team is generally better than the previous generation, with the exception of an outlier. A fact that is true in every sport and pretty much every human endeavor!
I think Rahul Dravid would be the first to admit that he was nowhere as solid and self-assured and technically flawless as the myth makes him out to be. Dude worked hard at it. Just like Pujara and Rahane do today. And he had many loose dismissals and lapses of concentration too.
