It amazes me still how willing people are to believe the worst about LPC after every other phoney smear by opposition parties.

What does that say about the Canadian political zeitgeist? That it’s turned cynical and believes conspiracy theories.

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1411507…
Fife and G&M have detailed this information, but strangely enough have left it to spin doctors to make the accusations.

Would that be the newly imported UK spin doctors O’Toole hired? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your guess is as good as mine.

Weren’t some of them former MI6?

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1410446…
This is a pattern of behaviour.

The public must employ critical thinking skills.

LPC has established an oversight system in 2018 in the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians. It is multi partisan & responsible for ALL intelligence activities.
This is the committee that
Tony Clement joined as one of the CPC MPs when he was also the “second in charge” of the International Democratic Union (a far right coordinating body for authoritarian political parties). Still headed by Stephen Harper.
His membership on the committee was made before he was caught in a sex scandal when he sent “dick pics” over his phone to two men in Africa (whom he thought were female) who then attempted to extort him. Twice.

cbc.ca/news/politics/…
While Clement can’t necessarily be used to smear the entire CPC, it remains murky who knew what when and if Clement was placed in the NSICOP as a compromised, easy to extort member who could reveal sensitive info, or if conservative party leaders found out late in the game too.
Which leads one to recall past issues with confirmed espionage and breaches of national security.

Several come to mind.

Canada has had more than one foreign spy/asset outed.

It may be time to review past incidents to help assess reliability & veracity of current accusers.
Bet you didn’t know it was a defection to Canada from a Russian mid level diplomat who set off the Cold War days after the end of WW2? Confirming Soviet espionage in western nations and triggering a Royal Commission to investigate espionage in Canada.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_Gouz…
James Morrison 1983.
Betrayed a double agent who was recalled and never heard from again.
upi.com/Archives/1986/…
Arthur Porter 2011

Hand picked by Stephen Harper to head the SIRC, the civilian oversight committee for CSIS. Privy to state secrets of Canada and the other 5 eyes nations. Charged with accepting bribes, fraud and money laundering.

nationalpost.com/news/canada/ca…
Many outstanding questions remain. But the criminal case was formerly withdrawn.

In 2019, properties bought with the money Porter took in bribes from SNC-Lavelin were sold by his family.

Quebec taxpayers are now responsible for the losses. The money, unrecoverable.
While never charged for these activities, Porter hired a former Israeli spy. He wired that former spy $200K as the middleman to arrange $120M from Russian Federation for infrastructure in Sierra Leone while he acted as a foreign agent & he was chair of CSIS oversight committee.
Jeffrey Delisle in 2011.

voanews.com/americas/impac…
The Delisle case revealed significant issues in Canadian intelligence and silos of information gathering that had been in place for decades and never addressed.

ctvnews.ca/politics/canad…
Frank Figliuzzi of US FBI was personally involved in the Deslisle case. As was Robert Mueller, FBI director at the time in 2011.

Who was in federal power in 2011?

The CPC.

Same time frame as Arthur Porter was accepting bribes, money laundering & making deals with Russia.
Apparently CSIS and RCMP operate completely separately. Intelligence investigations need to be conducted twice in Canada. CSIS wasn’t able to provide even a heads up to RCMP in 2011. Forcing Figliuzzi to personally fly to Canada to inform RCMP officials.
It’s curious that CPC never found it necessary to revisit the legislated silos and create a new way of sharing intelligence information between CSIS, RCMP and DOJ prosecution. They did cut everyone’s budget though.

But LPC report increasing collaboration over the last decade.
Created by LPC in 2018 to oversee ALL Canadian intelligence capacity, NSICOP is responsible for oversight of intelligence gathering, sharing and use of the information.

nsicop-cpsnr.ca/committee-memb…

A recent prosecution of breach of trust resulted in stayed charges.
Adm Norman’s case wasn’t dropped per se. The charges were STAYED. PMO & PCO could not share information with Norman’s lawyer, due to sensitivity & national security, suggesting CSIS intelligence had confirmed a breach, but couldn’t share for discovery.

globalnews.ca/news/5253178/m…
It seems Conservative and NDP MPs have found another incident where CSIS intelligence remains unable to be shared. But it also suggests CSIS intelligence has confirmed CCP espionage.

The inability to reveal the intelligence is being used to smear the LPC and create suspicion.
In April 2021, CSIS revealed 2020 was a banner year for espionage in Canada.

During the covid pandemic. Read the report.

cbc.ca/news/politics/…

cbc.ca/news/politics/…
The admission that espionage is a problem is Canada is not secret or hidden from the public. It’s been reported in documents prepared for public consumption.

theglobeandmail.com/politics/artic…
What is secret are some of the details. No different than US, UK, NZ and AU keeping information with national security implications secret from their citizens.

Some info needs to be handled cautiously. It impacts all 5 eyes nation’s security & intelligence capacity.
There is NO valid or justifiable reason for an ad hoc committee of the HOC, dominated by opposition parties, to demand unredacted reports on criminal investigations of CCP espionage.

Why is this committee trying to assert authority?

The public must demand MSM do its damn job.
Why is an ad hoc committee calling public servants to the bar and demanding sensitive information be revealed to them? Why are they demanding sanctions on public servants?

It took me a few hours to compile this info. WTF is MSM doing?

Spin and offering opinions & accusations.

Let’s talk about POPULISM.

What is it?

Who is using it?

How does it impact politics?

Is it dangerous?

Why are some using populist strategies?

How does populism impact democracy?
First let’s define representative democracy.

The vast majority of modern democracies use representative democracy.

The government is chosen by the people. The electorate chooses who governs by casting a vote. The winners then govern for all people, not just a subset. Image
Populism is inherently divisive. While it claims to be democratic, “The People” populism represents is a much narrower subset of the population. Populists mean the “good” people. Everyone else is an elite or an enemy.

Nuance ceases to exist. There is only black and white. ImageImageImage

When FBI are forced to fly up to Canada to demand an espionage investigation in which a foreign asset with access through Canadian intelligence is bleeding 5 eyes secrets to Russia, something is terribly wrong.
The kicker: CSIS had been surveillance the mole for months. Yet was legally prevented from informing RCMP investigators and law enforcement.

Does that sound normal to you?
A foreign ally was required to intervene to trigger the rushed investigation by RCMP so criminal espionage impacting several nations could be halted on Canadian turf.

@PeeCee62 @juzreading @78Bouch The utter lack of comprehension of nation security issues is astounding.

Read the committee order. The NDP & CPC want any documents related to criminal espionage with no redactions. They are okay with other redactions. Why?
@PeeCee62 @juzreading @78Bouch It’s also been leaked by Fife and other mainstream Canadian media sources that American IC is assisting RCMP and CSIS with the investigation.

Without redactions, names of sources and Canadian and American IC assets could be revealed.

Putting them and their families in peril.
@PeeCee62 @juzreading @78Bouch Which is a similar situation to the Steele dossier when it became known that Trump’s connections to Russia were being investigated.

Some American assets had to be extracted under existential threat and hidden in the US. Some Russians lost their lives.

This is a perfect example of disinformation and provocation.

Some truth, some gross exaggeration.

Residential schools are real.

Calling all deaths of indigenous children who attended murder is politicization.
We do not know what the causes of death were for any child in an unmarked grave.

This is why disinformation and provocation are so effective. It’s the combination of both.

Many may not realize they are amplifying disinformation and provocation.
Murder is a word loaded with meaning and inflammatory when used to describe every Residential School’s unmarked grave’s occupant’s cause of death.

Destruction is NOT the indigenous way of resolving trauma and anger.

This violence towards property is so contrary to indigenous worldview.

Any justification for vengeance or cathartic purging of rage does not originate from traditional beliefs.

peacearchnews.com/news/politicia…
This is not how indigenous people resolve problems.

So who is fuelling the belief that rage, vigilante mob justice and destruction of property is a just and valid response to residential school trauma?
Maybe media could ask these hooligans who continue to use intimidation, terrorism and violence to create anarchy whose agenda they are advancing?

Who is using propaganda to legitimize and rationalize vigilante justice?

Please read this.

It’s important!

While we reel in shock and horror about residential schools and indigenous people’s oppression, these issues continue to plague our political system.

And yes, they are all related in the political big picture.
If you want to be informed, you need to put the effort in to know the issues and how the system that oppresses indigenous people works to keep incomes low, misinform the electorate and provide privilege for the few who claim top status of the imposed hierarchy.
Thanks Amy for providing a peek at your larger project.

The system which controls our daily lives is complex and multifaceted.

There are no simple solutions or quick changes that will end systemic bias.

But it is a construct, not a physical barrier to change.
