How you can become a world-class problem solver today.👇🏻
1/ We all have problems.

Work, family, friends, you name it. Disagreements happen, decisions need to be made.

Yet often, ego gets in the way.

We become more focused on winning an argument, rather than finding the best solution.

But it's not our fault.
2/ The human brain thinks in a number of distinct ways.

Different personalities can look at the same problem through a multitude of lenses.

So how do you consider all perspectives, while keeping your focus on solving the issue at hand?

Let's talk about hats...
3/ First, a quick primer on the process:

Each hat represents a unique mode of thinking.

An individual (or group) begins by wearing a single hat and considering the problem at hand.

The process then repeats until all hats (or modes of thinking) have been considered.

Here we go
4/ The White Hat: "Information"

We need the facts & only the facts:

•What information is known?
•What information do we need?
•Where do "knowledge gaps" exist?

The white hat is objective. Placing no judgment on the information & seeking only to gather data.

Do this 1st.
5/ The Red Hat: "Feelings"

When dealing with any problem, we must understand the emotions involved.

•Anger
•Passion
•Sadness
•Excitement

Emotions are at the core of all we do.

Failure to consider their impact is a critical error and one that must be avoided.
6/ The Black Hat: "Risk Management"

Paramount to effective problem solving is the consideration of possible negative outcomes.

The black hat allows us to play devil's advocate.

•Focus on risk
•Identify weak points
•Prepare contingency plans

Put simply, what could go wrong?
7/ The Yellow Hat: "Optimism"

The opposite of the black hat, yellow is used to represent best-case scenarios.

•Hope
•Confidence
•Positive thinking
•Identify value & benefits

"What are the best possible outcomes"

Put simply, what could go right?
8/ The Green Hat: "Creativity"

Allows for the expression of new ideas, concepts, and viewpoints.

•Considers Alternatives
•Rejects rules & norms
•"Outside the box" thinking.

Have a "crazy" idea? Now's the time to voice it.
9/ The Blue Hat: "Organizing"

One of the most difficult aspects of problem-solving is the management of opposing viewpoints.

The blue hat is responsible for keeping the train on the tracks.

•What is the goal?
•What have we achieved?
•What do we need to consider next?
10/ Now that you understand the process, it's time to put it into practice.

Remember, knowledge without action is wasted.

So the next time you're faced with a difficult decision, try on your new thinking caps.

You just might find you've become a world-class problem solver!

It's 1937, and Vernon Rudolph is broke.

He's got $25 to his name, an old Pontiac, and a secret recipe from a French Pastry Chef...

84 years later, the company he founded is valued at $2.62 Billion.

1/ Our story begins in 1933 when Rudolph, while on a trip to New Orleans, had a chance encounter with a French Chef named Joe LeBeau.

LeBeau had a secret.

A yeast-raised doughnut recipe that would become legendary, although neither man knew it at the time.
2/ Rudolph, only 18 years old, was an enterprising young man.

He purchased the recipe along with the rights to the Krispy Kreme name & returned home to Paducah, KY.

There, Rudolph was an employee in his Uncle's dry goods store, where doughnuts were one of many items they sold.

In the last 3 months, I've grown my Twitter following from ~30 to almost 5,000.

I'm not a growth marketer.

I don't always get things right.

I'm an average guy, trying to write interesting stories, & grow an audience.

1/ It's not easy.

Everyone's heard the stories of massive followings being built overnight.

Unless you're already well-known or happen to strike gold with an insanely viral post, it's going to take time.

Time and consistency. Show up, provide value, the followers will come.
2/ Be transparent.

Authenticity works. Be willing to share not only your successes but your failures as well.

Believe it or not, everyone is winging it.

Sharing failure helps you learn and you'll be surprised at the amount of encouraging feedback you receive.
