In my early 20s, my first gig was at a social networking app backed by Facebook Start program.
Did a bunch of mistakes. Actually a lot.
A thread on the learnings. 👇
1. Never ever do an incent based affiliate campaign. Never ever ever.
2. Never scale acquisition, if your retention is screwed. ❌❌❌❌
3. Retention of the first 1000 users is not equal to Retention of next 10,000 users.
4. Marketing Communication Automation tools are underrated. Implement them at early stage.
5. If B2C, You don't need a blog writer at frst. Get a kick-ass copywriter first. Hire comics as copywriter if you can. They make someone laugh, they can make someone click.
6. Get attribution right. Don't run ads on multiple channels if your attribution is not sorted. You will be shooting in the dark.
7. Invest in Content from Day 1. If you have the money, aim towards owning the distribution (long term)
8. Don't listen to industry benchmarks and numbers. No one has a playbook. Listen to insights and figure it out yourself.
9. Take breaks. Your mind needs some fresh air to think. I used to work non-stop. ☹️ Don't become a Zombie.
