Sunday is here! We've had some ill health in the household, so I figure the best time to lay about with a horror movie is now!
On this #Kissmatewatches, we're continuing the Hellraiser series with Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) dir by Tony Randel.

Something I didn't mention last time is the DVD we got had no captions. We were let down, but we did the best we could.
HB: HR2 also doesn't have captions. Different DVD, not in a set.
I am peeved- PEEVED, SIR, that I do not have my written accessibilities!

#Kissmatewatches As we start CAPTIONLESS,
we get a brief recollection of Kirsty defeating the Cenobites with the Puzzle Box. A nice montage that gives us the horrors she had to fight off with only a box.
I don't think I ever expressed how horrifying that must have been. It is.

#Kissmatewatches After some credits, we witness the next victim of the Puzzle Box. He's a white military/explorer man who lives in a hanger. The Puzzle Box opens differently than before, but the same hooks come out- Oh, this is the birth of Pinhead. Ok. That's... a thing to show.

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty lies in a bed with a detective telling her that she's in an institute. So the house DIDN'T burn down, because a cop found Frank's suitcase and some of the bodies Julia "cleaned up". The cop gets spooked and shoots a skeleton that fell out of a closet. ACAB

#Kissmatewatches The detective is told over walkie-talkie that the only real evidence is a bloodied mattress with no human remains on it.
"Julia"
Wait, was Julia actually alive for that, or were the Cenobites just torturing her body to torture her soul? Frank drained her!

#Kissmatewatches [GORE]
A doctor waxes poetic while taking a blender stick to a person's brain WHILE THEY'RE AWAKE.
Kissmate thinks it's too removed from reality to be scary or gory. I'm too busy thinking of what that person has lost mentally and physically.
Either way WHAT FUN.

#Kissmatewatches We learn this Doctor Channard is assigned to Kirsty. He doesn't want to speculate, just observe, analyze, and take her pain away.
Fuck, this is going to be BAD time, isn't it?

#Kissmatewatches As the detective leaves for the night, Kirsty begs him to destroy the mattress as Julia could come back just like Frank did. And she yells that to him verbatim. The only one intrigued is Channard, who requests something of the detective in private.

#Kissmatewatches I got money riding on Channard bringing back Julia to prove that she's not right. You know, the thing that's dumb and illegal to do. The thing that DOESN'T calm patients down.
If you're asked to burn something because it might summon Cthulu if you don't, DO IT.

#Kissmatewatches Night comes and someone is loudly putting together wooden puzzle blocks. Kirsty goes to investigate why her sleep is interrupted and sees a blonde woman putting them together. An orderly tells Kirsty her story.

#Kissmatewatches Tiffany - A name given to her by a nurse. Been there six months. No family, friends, visitors. She never speaks or writes or communicates. All she does is solve puzzles. Autistic-coded?

#Kissmatewatches [gore] Kirsty goes back to her room and tries to sleep again. The radiator makes a screech that moves Kirsty's attention to the bathroom, where a skinned woman lies. A flash, and she's gone. All that remains is wet blood with a message: "I AM IN HELL HELP ME".

#Kissmatewatches I wonder if they're going to blame Kirsty for the mess or if she cleans it up before anyone sees it. Her finger was the same width as the letters.

#Kissmatewatches After some ableist side-showing, Kirsty gets the doctor's and orderly's attentions in a very white woman "Believe My Weird Ass Story Already!" way.
She then gives us some backstory that we got from the first movie while expressing hate towards Julia.

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty asks Channard if he thinks she's crazy, and I can already see in his eye that he WANTS her to be right.
He WANTS these Cenobites to exist. He WANTS to bring back the dead Julia. He WANTS to open up Hell!!!
A man who believes her is not one to be trusted!

#Kissmatewatches This just reinstates the trope of why you should keep your demonic brush with death close to the chest.
Those that don't believe you aren't bad, they just don't believe demons exist.
Those that do believe you either are the bad guys or want to meet the bad guys!

#Kissmatewatches Channard manages to get the mattress moved to his house, and we see that he owns three Puzzle Boxes already!
FUCK, what I say?! HE IS BAD GUY!

#Kissmatewatches [gore, self harm] Channard takes an inmate to his house and to the mattress. He gives the inmate a razor and the inmate starts cutting himself. The blood covers the mattress and a skinless Julia grabs him from below! She devours his fluids until he's dead.

#Kissmatewatches Julia asks the doctor for help, telling him not to be scared of her. The entire time, Channard doesn't so much as make a sound. She gets blood all over his house, but he doesn't seem to mind. Hell, he even bandages her exposed parts. (Yes, ALL of them.)

#Kissmatewatches Eighteen rolls of gauze later, Channard and Julia make out a bit.
"Now all we need," Julia breathlessly whispers, "is skin."

Kirsty gets a visit from an orderly who saw everything in Channard's house. "It's all true. Get dressed. I got to get you out of here."

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty is upset that Julia came back but not her father. She starts making plans to free her father and destroy Julia. Kyle, the orderly, tries to play White Knight and goes along to protect/help her.

#Kissmatewatches Meanwhile, Julia feasts on the living bodies given to her and is back to her regular strength and beauty.
Kirsty and Kyle break in and start to inspect what they can quietly.

#Kissmatewatches As Kyle moves to a different room, Kirsty stays behind. Julia fools Kyle into giving her the last skin piece she needed. Poor Kyle. I thought he'd live longer.

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty hears a noise, goes to investigate, and sees Kyle dead. Julia smacks her to the ground (I guess out cold). Channard brings in Jennifer to solve one of the Puzzle Boxes. I guess it's time to bring the Pain-Inflicting Monks.

#Kissmatewatches As the Puzzle Box is solved, we see those old familiar faces walk in! Before they can touch Jennifer, Pinhead stops them.
"It is not hands that call us; it is desire."
Oh thank god, I hope she gets out safe from this movie!!

#Kissmatewatches Like the foolish mortals they are, Julia and Channard walk down a random corridor. Jennifer is following carnival music, so maybe I celebrated too soon.

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty sees what is her old home, but it's all a nightmarish illusion. The Cenobites surround her in a ruin and toy with her mind. They do say that her father's in his own Hell, just as she's in hers. Given the imagery that we've seen, I am one to believe it!

#Kissmatewatches I had to look up a script just to hear what was going on. Pinhead alone has such a booming voice, and the female Cenobite had this echo effect on her voice that makes it hard to hear.

I'm wondering if she's some kind of Queen of Hell. She's not worried to be back where she was supposedly tortured.

#Kissmatewatches OMG, so Julia worships Leviathan and her release was banked on the doctor's capture. Which he is, and now being tortured for eternity. I'm okay with that. Maybe not Julia being free, but the rest is awesome!

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty sees her old home and walks back into it, knowing this isn't like before.
It's filled with drawers of bloody women orgasming. I don't think this is Larry's hell.

#Kissmatewatches Ah, Frank! He was sending her messages! Because she's what he desires!

Either way, she burns his "alter" that burns his first layer off. He's only saved by Julia. Who isn't happy with him.
I wonder why. It's not like he stabbed her.
Oh look, she stabbed him!

#Kissmatewatches After ripping out his heart, Julia grabs the Puzzle Box and goes after the girls.
Kirsty and Jennifer run away and manage to get back to the real world, they think. But they lost the Box. It's okay, though. Julia lost her skin. Win-win?

#Kissmatewatches With Kirsty feeling safe, she breaks down crying in Tiffany's arms. Then, with fresh faces, they go onwards.
They find a room filled with patients being forced to work on Puzzle Boxes. Channard, now attached to a worm on his skull, bursts forth from some doors!

#Kissmatewatches Wormard is a strange character here. I get his desire to know and understand the brain, even to the point of summoning demons. But doesn't he know now? He was tortured with the knowledge for a while. Now he's just released onto the world? Or is this his Hell?

#Kissmatewatches Wormard tortures his patients more while Kirsty and Jennifer run into a door to escape.
Except the Cenobites are waiting behind! SHIT!
"No more Boxes. No more Teasing. Time to Play."
Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck.
Wait. She has that picture of Pinhead before Pinhead.

#Kissmatewatches It's nice to see Chompers without his blinders. He has such pretty eyes.

#Kissmatewatches Kirsty tells them they were all human once, and they seem to remember after some coaxing.
Once Wormard bursts in, it's a Cenobite vs Cenobite FIGHT!
You'd think it'd be more epic than a few One Hit KOs, wouldn't you?

#Kissmatewatches All the rest, even Chompers, gets killed and turned back to human form. (Chompers was a KID! A BOY!)
Pinhead stands against Wormard. Pinhead takes a few electric shocks, turning him into more of a human. He nods at the two girls who make a run for it.

#Kissmatewatches Pinhead grabs a hook and-
Gets his throat slit. I... I expected more, TBH.
Down he goes.
Tiffany says she has to find the Puzzle Box and solve it because maybe everything will get better.

#Kissmatewatches Tiffany finds the Box and goes to the center of the labyrinth. She walks forward and starts remembering her past. Channard killed her mother so he could have an on-hand puzzle solver.

#Kissmatewatches Wormmard comes back to finish off Tiffany, but gets distracted by Julia's appearance! They make out a little, long enough for the box to be solved. When Wommard realizes what happened, he goes to kill Tiffany, but gets pulled apart by his two worm halves instead.

#Kissmatewatches As Tiffany slips off the edge, Julia reaches for her hand. Turns out it was Kirsty wearing Julia's skin and taking the gross one for the team! They both get back to the real world and walk out of the asylum hand in hand.

#Kissmatewatches The doctor's house is getting cleaned out by the movers from the first one. One sees the mattress and calls for his friend, but gets pulled down by skeletal arms! But we're not done.

#Kissmatewatches The second witnesses a torture block get pulled out of the bloody mattress with a bunch of faces, many recognizable, on the block. It stops on a bearded man's face who opens his eyes.
"What's your pleasure, sir?"
END!

#Kissmatewatches This was better than I expected! Not as good as the first, but we got a lot more Cenobite lore and some closure on Kirsty's story (if it is the last we see of her).

#Kissmatewatches If this is the last we hear/see of Kirsty, I'm imagining her and Tiffany going off and getting married together. Because WLW romances.

#Kissmatewatches Either way, great story, great effects, great fun!
