Texas Democrats plan to leave the state to block restrictive voting legislation and other GOP priorities

“At least 50 House Dems had plans to travel to Washington later today…. The exodus would deny Republicans the required ⅔ attendance level to conduct business, calling into doubt whether plans to take up the voting legislation this week could proceed.”
For the misinformed (by GOP) that the #TXDems are all taking separate private planes, they are not.

They chartered 2 planes to carry all of them.

“most House Dems boarded 2 planes out of Austin headed for the US capital w/o a set return date. At least 51 of the 67 Dem reps — the # needed to break quorum — were in the process of leaving Mon. afternoon, most arriving at AUS… to board chartered flights that dep around 3:10”

Excerpts from @POTUS #VotingRights speech:

“Election officials, the entire electoral system withstood unrelenting political attacks, physical threats, intimidation & pressure.

“They did so w/unyielding courage & faith in our democracy.

“With recount after recount…
“court case after court case, the 2020 election was the most scrutinized election ever in American history.

“Challenge after challenge brought to local, state & election officials, state legislatures, state & federal courts, even to the United States Supreme Court
“- not once but twice.

“More than 80 judges including those appointed by my predecessor heard the arguments.

“In every case, neither cause nor evidence was found to undermine the national achievement of administering the historic election in the face of such extraordinary

@BerniceKing Thank you.

I’d like Democrat Congress Representatives to stop using these as their main talking points. In fact very few people oppose ID requirements, if the types of ID allowed are expanded.

These bills target:

mail voting,

early voting,

voter registration efforts,

1/
@BerniceKing the power of local officials to oversee elections,

the powers of poll watchers (increasing voter intimidation & harassment)

purge existing voters,

limit drop boxes,

limit the time a person can request an absentee ballot,

limit absentee ballot application accessibility,

2/
@BerniceKing change election boards from nonpartisan to appointed by partisan parties,

limit the role of courts in adjudicating disputes

tweaking Electoral College & judicial rules

as of May, there have been 389 bills proposed across 48 states
