19 states have enacted 33 laws that will make it harder for Americans to vote.
We NEED the #FreedomToVoteAct to #SaveDemocracy

I did a THREAD of those laws, State-by-State, with Postcards.
ALABAMA. Banned Curbside voting, shortened time to apply for a mail-in ballot & threatens felony prosecution to local officials who supply ballot without a request
And, Secretary of State & 3 probate judges (who require no formal training) will conduct audit after 2022 election.
Shifted election litigation control from Secretary of State (currently a DEM) to AG (currently GOP).
Another threatens local officials w/ felony for providing mail ballots to voters unless they request.
Also made it harder to stay on PEVL (Permanent Early Voting List)

1/ Congressman Bill Posey is getting a free pass from @January6thCmte, @TheJusticeDept, and the public in general, but he shouldn't be. His lies about the election, and his attempts to overturn the results are documented at length here.

Hi @WHCOS. What is the White House's position on reforming the filibuster to get voting rights legislation through the Senate?

I ask this bc, without #VotingRights, all the legislation you're trying to pass will be flipped, just like election results. TY.

@WHCOS @waltshaub @AJentleson 3/ The panel went on to say that we can’t organize our way out of this, & many of those voters who have been asked to fight their hearts out for voting rights are asking, Why should we fight if Biden won’t?

While today’s lack of bipartisan support for a vote on the #FreedomToVoteAct was not an enormous surprise, it was still disappointing to see this reaction to the most significant #votingrights bill in a generation. 1/5 #FreedomToVote…
This is a transformative piece of legislation that, if enacted, will increase Americans’ access to the ballot box, neutralize partisan and racial gerrymandering and increase transparency in our campaign finance system to counteract the impact of dark money secret spending. 2/5
In an era where we see politicians erecting deliberate barriers to voting, with both parties enacting partisan gerrymanders and dark money pouring into elections in as-yet-unseen amounts, this compromise legislation would provide some of the most comprehensive advances... 3/5

This was what I worried would happen with @Booker4KY. Not be on the offensive with @RandPaul, who's an abysmal, but only on the defensive when need to. Just like the @KyDems always do, which is a losing strategy. But Booker's running on policies that are materially popular!!!
Here's a fun fact about running in an election... If you run as an Aggressive & Offensive Candidate with Policies that help the People & their Material Well-being, then you win.
Here's how I know; In the 2015 Midterms, @AlanGrayson of the @FlaDems, he won with no problem. He was unapologetic when being a "#Progressive", stands up with his Principles & goes for the Jugular in Political Ads at his Opponents on how their Policies are Wrong, Evil & Bad &...

A thread on the #FreedomToVoteAct..…
Thank you @NormOrnstein & Dennis Aftergut for this synthetic description, some of which I will reprint below.
"If passed, the bill will, in federal elections, override local voter-restrictive laws proliferating in states with Republican-dominated legislatures.
"So far this year, at least 18 states have adopted laws burdening access to voting. Our country’s Founders foresaw this danger. The Constitution’s election clause grants Congress the power to displace state law in federal elections."

#VotingRights Alert SB105, the budget bill, goes to the #NCGA House floor this week. There are several anti-voter provisions. Tell legislators how important it is to protect the right to vote in NC. THE VOTING PROVISIONS NEED TO BE REMOVED or the bill should be voted down. #ncpol
NC Legislators are trying to sneak anti-voter bills that haven’t gained traction in the NCGA into the required budget. These provisions have been struggling to get through the #NCGA because they’re bad for North Carolinians and there has been sustained pressure against them.
The budget should be about appropriating funds to our communities – not stifling our right to vote. Other than wasting taxpayers’ money on a voter ID program for a law that’s not in effect, the bill’s proposals do not directly relate to government funds.

We need to let ALL legislators know how important it is to protect the right to vote in NC.
They will be under a lot of pressure to pass this bill because there are budgetary provisions – spending, raises, and tax cuts – that a lot of constituents want. BUT THE VOTING PROVISIONS NEED TO BE REMOVED or should be voted down.

@SenMikeLee is doing one of his famous phone Town Halls right now, where you get no notice but if you're on the list, they call and say this is happening right NOW, stay on the line. Many of us have suspected the staff screens the calls and only allows in friendly questions.
So I am testing that theory.
I actually got in to the queue to ask a question, rather fast. The staff asked what the question is "in case we get disconnected". 🙄
Since I want to ask about the For the People Act, if I don't get to ask it, I'd say that's proof. We shall see.
I told them I'll ask which part of the For the People Act he dislikes, given we have successful & broad voting in Utah. And if his issue is voter ID, would he support a national voter ID card being given for free to all?

Just spoke with @BarbaraArnwine, who was arrested along with @RevJJackson, @RevDrBarber, and 36 others attempting a peaceful protest to petition #KyrstenSinema’s support for the filibuster, which is stopping the passage of the #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct.…
I’d like to ask @SenatorSinema why her Senate office is not in a federal building but in a private building where trespass laws can be used against people trying to meet with her. @Sen_JoeManchin has pulled the same trick.
Years back I was in #Arizona reporting on the GOP Secretary of State removing more than 100,000 Hispanics from the voter rolls. It was only through the efforts of @RevJJackson, @BarbaraArnwine and our friends at @SuVotoEsSuVoz that thousands of those removed were re-registered.

2/ Q: What did the Confederacy stand for?
A: Rather than interpreting, let's go to the words of the Confederacy's VP, Alexander Stephens. In his "Cornerstone Speech" on March 21, 1861 he said "The Constitution... rested upon the equality of races. This was an error.
3/ Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition.
