“We know that national and global events have the potential to trigger short-terms rises in hate crime and we saw this following the EU Referendum last year.
Imagine someone had told the family or friends of a victim of a rape

“I believe the referendum has led to an increase in reporting of hate crime. It is very clear in that more people have been aware of experiencing such incidents than we have had before.”
