#Johnbarrowman has proven that he's a vacuous, self-consumed twat, and he has no idea about what women who work in #film and #theater go through and the vulnerable positions they are put in. The excuses for his behavior are bullshit. #notokay dailymail.co.uk/femail/article….
"In the theatre quick costume changes happen in the wings all the time, with everyone stripping off to get into their new outfits in time for the next scene,' he says. 'Girls might be braless, boys only in jockstraps. That's just how it is and no one gives it a second thought."
How blase, and ignorant.
THAT'S NOT 'JUST HOW IT IS!" This comment shows exactly how oblivious he is about his actions behind the scenes on stage/on set.
Women DO give it a second thought. Women who work in theater/ film worry about this stuff ALL THE TIME.
Women in film and theater are hyperaware of the ways they are made to feel vulnerable. They can feel VERY uncomfortable doing quick changes, especially when there are men -actors and stagehands- gawping. I was a stage manager. I could not protect my actresses from being groped.
I could not prevent the same actor from groping me in the dark as we moved around backstage during the performance. I reported multiple incidences but the producers didn't want to upset the actor, so WE women were told to 'avoid' him and change OUR behavior.
Barrowman's 'whoops I was a naughty boy goofing around' attitude is WHY women feel uncomfortable. Sure, he wasn't malicious/ predatory/ looking to assault anyone. But other straight men saw his actions + that he got away with it- it gives the impression it's ok to get ur dick out
Unless you're a porn star it's not okay to get your cock out at work. It's not appropriate. Barrowman clearly doesn't believe anything he did was wrong because 'some people laughed'... and of course he was the star of the show.
There needs to be a bigger conversation in the entertainment industry about boundaries. Agents and producers need to stop pandering to the 'talent'. No one is indispensable. But it's clear many actors believe they can get away with all kinds of bad behavior cos they're the 'star'
John, it's not the fault of 'cancel culture' that your behavior is being highlighted. It's the fact that you were in a position of power. You were a role model for LGBTQI people + you've let them down by acting out stereotypes everyone has been fighting to break.

THREAD 1/7 #readercommunity

#Readers who justify #bookpiracy because THEY are poor i.e can buy the latest tech, fashions, daily coffees but cannot 'afford' books, we need to have a talk, and #RealityCheck ...
1. Those who download from #pirate sites wouldn't buy the book anyway.

To justify theft by saying that the thief wouldn't pay for what they stole is ridiculous. Clearly, they wanted the product but didn't think it was 'worth' $4 because they can steal it without consequences.
2. Authors earn lots of money, they're just being greedy.

In the latest @ALCS_UK research "“The median annual income of a professional author is £10,500 (US$11,300), which is well below the minimum wage."

1% of authors earn huge sums, most of us barely scrape a living.
