For the last year or so we’ve been warning about the infiltration of Q-Anon conspiracy theorists into our federal government. #velshi
2/15
Many of the January 6th Insurrectionists, if they weren’t wearing logos of their own far right or militia groups, were seen with Q Anon shirts, flags and another paraphernalia. #velshi
3/15
They believed and espouse fantastical and ridiculous conspiracy theories, including that democrats and the media are part of a Satan-worshipping, pedophile and baby-eating cabal. Or at least that’s what they were in their early days. #velshi
4/15
They seem to have found new comfort in vaccine denial and, of course, in the Big Lie that the 2020 election was fraudulently stolen from the former President. QAnon once thrived in the darkest corners of the web. #velshi
5/15
While we still find traces of QAnon on our Aunts and Uncles’ Facebook pages, the movement has largely dissipated on the internet. But that’s not good news, because they are reappearing on a ballot near you. #velshi
6/15
After their failure on 1/6, dozens of QAnon followers are attempting to lay a more durable claim to our federal seat of gov't. According to Media Matters, at least 40 ppl running for Congress in 2022 have expressed some level of support for the QAnon movement. #velshi
7/15
The state with the highest number of QAnon candidates is - you guessed it - Florida.
And politically, 38 of the 40 candidates are Republicans. There are two Democratic QAnon candidates, you wonder? Nope. The other two are Independents. #velshi

Here’s what we’re working with: Ignacio Cruz is a Republican running for Congress in California. After he was accused of supporting QAnon, Cruz released this statement on official campaign letterhead. #velshi
9/15
“From what I researched online, QAnon believes the following: If not for the election of Donald Trump, a worldwide cabal of satan-worshipping pedophiles that rule the world and control everything, would continue ruling the world. Where do I sign up?” #velshi
10/15
Here’s another Republican running for Congress in California. This guy gets straight to the point. He took to Twitter last year: Ask me anything G Money asks, Do you support the Q movement? Yep! No beating around the bush there. #velshi
11/15
He later deleted the tweet & told Axios he didn't recall sending it nor does he endorse Q. This is dangerous stuff. QAnon lies & people die. Right now, fueled in part by QAnon adherents, a massive COVID disinfo campaign is convincing Americans not to get vaccinated. #velshi
12/15
In 2020 at least two candidates - Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert - who had publicly sympathized with Qanon, won their elections and are now members of the United States Congress. #velshi
13/15
The rest of the GOP may not bow to the QAnon Gods but giving these conspiracy theorists comfort and aid in the Republican Party makes them accomplices. #velshi
14/15
This isn’t about your politics anymore - this is about conspiracy theorists spreading lies that are undermining the Republican Party and American democracy, and endangering the health and lives on Americans. #velshi
15/15
It’s time for the Republican Party to expunge these conspiracy theorists from its ranks. For the sake of democracy. #velshi

“Physicians raced to provide fluids to patients who arrived breathless, dizzy and drenched in sweat. Others were brought in on stretchers, their body temperatures so high their central nervous systems had shut down…#velshi#climatecrisis

Those who could still speak told of stifling apartments and sun that made their skin sizzle.”
That quote from the Washington Post sounds like something out of the Sahara Desert. But no. #velshi

That was life in Portland, Oregon just this past week. Portland’s average temperature in the beginning of July ranges from low 50s to high of 80s. Last week, it reached 115 degrees Fahrenheit. #velshi#climatechange

July 4th - Independence Day, is a celebration of America’s freedom from British rule. It’s cemented by the Declaration of Independence - a piece of paper declaring the unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit if happiness in America. #velshi

That document hides a stark reality that in the year it was written, fully one-fifth of the American population was in bondage. The newly independent "free" nation still held hundreds of thousands of Black people in slavery. #velshi

Many of the Colonists who fought to remove the bonds of what they called British oppression saw no contradiction in the fact that they bought and sold human beings themselves. #velshi

We are witnessing an active cover-up on Capitol Hill. The leaders of the Republican party are no longer just playing dumb when it comes to the January 6th insurrection - they are openly trying to mask a deadly attack on our democracy. #velshi
2/13
This week the House voted to create a special select committee to investigate what happened before, during & after the assault on the Capitol. Democrats were forced to take this step because Republicans previously blocked a commission that would have done the same. #velshi
3/13
Two Republicans voted with Democrats in favor of the committee: Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wasn’t happy about this. Because in his eyes, his GOP henchmen have a duty to uphold the Big Lie and certainly not the truth. #velshi

Seven of the world’s most powerful leaders are spending a sunny, warm weekend in the tranquil, English coastal village of Carbis Bay. It’s a picturesque ocean backdrop for the G7 summit. #velshi

The view, can almost make you forget that this beautiful planet that we call home, is deteriorating fast because of climate change. For the first time in 4 years, the U.S. has returned to being one of the most environmentally conscious countries in the world. #velshi

President Biden has taken several steps toward cleaner air & a cleaner planet here at home, from re-instituting climate protections undone by the prior administration… #velshi

"Pay it no mind". It was a phrase that became popular in the '60s and '70s among members of the LGBTQ community. When facing hate, many adopted the mindset: Pay it no mind. #velshi

In 1969, the abuse against the gay community in America could no longer be ignored. At the time, it was illegal to engage in gay behavior in public - like holding hands, kissing, or dancing with a person of the same sex. #velshi

So, gay, lesbian, and transgender people flocked to bars and clubs where they could express themselves openly and socialize without worry. #velshi

After 12 yrs the most unlikely parties in Israel - the left, the right & even the handful of Arabs elected to the Israeli Parliament - have banded together to form a “change” coalition, & end what many agree has been bad for the country - a Netanyahu administration. #velshi
7/11
These three sides have literally put country before politics, and that’s a lesson from which we could learn. None have given up their principles, none have made concessions to their ideology, but all decided that enough was enough. #velshi
8/11
They will now work to heal their country’s politics together, as impossible as that task seems. This is a fragile coalition, and it does not solve any of the underlying issues Israel faces. #velshi
