It shouldn't. The concept was originally "fairness," not "objectivity," which in and of itself is a concept which was created and weaponized by, you guessed it, the far right's agenda and pushed into policy by the Reagan administration
When I say I benefit from institutional knowledge thanks to coming from a journalism family, that's part of what I mean. When others call me a "maverick," they're betraying their own ignorance of our shared history. poynter.org/reporting-edit…
Of course the same entities behind every inauthentic moral panic to privilege the far right were behind this one as well (1993)
So as you can see, they took an established policy, turned it into a strawman, attacked the strawman using paid trolls and useful idiots, and got their disinformation campaign enshrined into policy to help them gain and consolidate power. Sound like anything going on recently?

See, this is why I hover around astrology and other woo forums. I don't see anything inherently wrong with astrology but we are dealing with something way worse than information warfare or narrative warfare: it's archetypal warfare.
Every so often I read stories about younger people flocking to astrology. While I'm not convinced it's an actual new trend, I do think I understand why it's the case. People are searching for new stories and archetypes, new heroes and villains, because the old ones got us here.
If you interfere with those archetypes, those stories we tell ourselves and one another about who we truly are and what we are capable of, you interfere with entire cultures. Pretty easy from there to see how one might use Facebook data to push "cultural fascism" on people
I just tried to get @Verizon to cough up the text message from someone purporting to be a source that I got right before I started to get followed all over the border region around 2014, and they wouldn't but then they tried to upsell me on my plan lol
I am so pleased to see Americans exercising their #1A rights to tell these disinformation purveyors they are not welcome in our neighborhoods. That's building resilience losangeles.cbslocal.com/2021/07/17/ame…
"Blue Origin said in a press release that the person, who asked to remain anonymous for the time being, had to bow out [of the July 20th space flight] because of “scheduling conflicts.”"
Local anti-CRT "concerned parents" are recruiting for the local QAnon-loving militia group now. Way to go, local media. You got played by an astroturf, just like I warned you would.
