It's always such a great event, with food and drink to everyones' tastes, but after the year we've all had we are even more excited to see it come back in 2021!

It's time to chow down.
Food and drink stalls at Doncaster Market, live cooking demonstrations in the Wool Market and, for the first time ever, the KUBZ Tipi Bar in Nigel Gresley Square!

Picture this…

You get a text from your child's school informing you that there is an outbreak of chickenpox.
You know straight away that you’re going to have to cancel that BBQ at the weekend at your parents’ house and you’ll have to re-arrange that playdate at their cousins, because your sister-in-law is pregnant.
Deaths due to chickenpox occur about 1 per 60,000 cases, because everyone naturally knows how to react when outbreaks happen.

Back in ancient Egypt, if Egyptians found head lice on themselves they would shave their entire bodies to get rid of them.

In the 60’s, parents in the UK would often pour harmful remedies, like gasoline, on to their child’s hair.
Now?

Parents are notified of an outbreak, everyone checks and combs their child’s hair every 3 days for 2 weeks, and then pray they never return.

From desperate, to dangerous, to doable.
Learning to live with outbreaks is nothing new to us.

So learning to live with Covid will be possible too.

80 years ago, one man’s single trip to the toilet led to the capture and imprisonment of 36 people.

We think there’s something we can all learn from this story.
Now, in Doncaster, we know a thing or two about this subject.

No crass jokes though, please – we are talking about the fact that the inventor of the flushing toilet, Thomas Crapper, hails from our fair borough.
The people involved in this story could have benefited from Crapper’s command of the commode, as a seemingly innocuous trip to the lavatory led to a disastrous turn of events.

After his wife passed away, this man single-handedly carved a tunnel through a mountain.

We think we can all learn something from his incredible story.

It’s time for another #coronavirus-related history lesson from Doncaster Council.
This amazing person was called Dasrath Manjhi.

Born in India, he was a labourer from the village of Gehlaur.
In 1959, Manjhi's wife Falguni Devi was injured after falling from a narrow ridge on a nearby mountain, trying to cross to the next village.

The mountain divided the two areas and meant that the nearest doctor was 55km away. She sadly died before Dasrath could get her there.
