After his 6/20/19 interview, Barrack’s spokesman said that "Barrack’s lawyer had again contacted the prosecutors’ office and 'confirmed they have no further questions for Mr. Barrack.'"
Didn't hold up well. nytimes.com/2019/07/28/us/…
"The defendants, using their positions of power and influence in a presidential election year, engaged in a conspiracy to illegally advance and promote the interests of the United Arab Emirates in this country..." justice.gov/opa/pr/former-…
Spokesman for Barrack: “Mr. Barrack has made himself voluntarily available to investigators from the outset. He is not guilty and will be pleading not guilty.”
While Barrack ran Trump's inaugural committee, tech CEO Andy Khawaja gave it $1 million. Khawaja was later charged with $3.5 million to Clinton's campaign that came from UAE. The inaugural donation likely also came from them. But not clear Barrack knew. motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
Barrack was charged with acting as an agent of a foreign state without notifying the attorney general under 18 U.S.C. §951. That's what Maria Butina was charged with. And Barrack allegedly did a lot more for UAE than Butina did for Russia. If she was a spy, he's an alleged spy.
Isn't this intelligence gathering/carrying out instructions?
Barrack sought UAE help getting made Special Envoy to the Middle East or ambassador to the UAE, by noting his appointment would "give Abu Dhabi more power." motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
There is a glaring absence of references to money in the Barrack indictment. Prosecutors don't mention it, but while he was allegedly acting as an agent for UAE, Barrack's firm got close to $2 billion from UAE and KSA, the Times reported in 2019. motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
I should have wrote.$1.5 billion, not "close to $2 billion," Regardless, if prosectors could show Barrack acted for $, you'd think they'd say it. Failure to mention seems to suggest a weakness in their case, though the statute at issue is pretty vague.
In June 2017, the UAE and KSA planned "to invade and essentially conquer Qatar." They wanted a US okay to launch a war of aggression. theintercept.com/2018/08/01/rex… They were dissuaded by Mattis and Tillerson. Is this the Emirati "plan" Barrack was "so ready!" to help them push?

He still works for BGR, as he did while serving as special envoy to Ukraine. motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
Volker, it seems, overtly lied in his public Nov '19 testimony (not just in his Oct. deposition justsecurity.org/67314/chart-si…) And he lied about knowing that Giuliani had pushed Ukraine for a quid pro quo: investigate Biden and you get normal relations. motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
Even now, this still matters. Volker misled not just Congress but the public about the Ukraine scandal. And his phony claims muddled the already confusing issue and fed the idea that there is no truth, just partisan assertion.

CNN's report this week on a July 2019 call in which Giuliani pressured Ukraine's government to announce an investigation into Biden wasn't just bad for Rudy. It also revealed that former Ambassador Kurt Volker made false statements to Congress. motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
In his public 11/19/19 testimony Volker said: "At no time was I aware of or knowingly took part in an effort to urge Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Biden." False. In a July 2019 call Volker took part in, Giuliani pressed a Zelensky aide for a Biden investigation.
Republicans cited Volker's inaccurate testimony to defend Trump in 2019. Lindsey Graham: “Volker, the special envoy, said there was no quid pro quo...I find the whole process to be a sham and I’m not going to legitimize it.” Jim Jordan made the same claim: foxnews.com/media/rep-jord…

I am here on the 102nd floor of one World Trade Center for the “First anniversary Celebration of the New Federal State of China, Guo Wengui/Miles Kwok’s and Steve Bannon’s anti CCP org. Themes: China created Covid in a lab; China hacked voting machines to rig the election.
Mike Lindell is confident the Supreme Court will rule 9-0 by August to “pull this election down.” Trump “is gonna be back in by the end of August,” Lindell says.
Giuliani confers with Bannon and Lindell.

Back in March, we reported a video that showed a bunch of Oath Keepers who later stormed the Capitol taking a firearms training course. motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
Most of these Oath Keepers had already been charged with conspiracy in March. But one guy who part of the training and stormed the Capitol was still uncharged/unidentified, despite holding up a certificate with his name on it during the firearms training.
In a new indictment Sunday, prosecutors charged four more Oath Keepers including Joseph Hackett, a chiropractor from Sarasota, Fla. He was the unidentified guy at the firearms training and in the "stack" of Oath Keepers who stormed the Capitol on 1/6. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

In reporting on Giuliani's alleged work as a unregistered agent for foreign interests, and talking to him a bit, I was struck by his arrogance. He didn't seem to understand FARA. And he just blew off questions. nytimes.com/2021/04/28/nyr…
This story from way back in 2019, based substantially on reporting by the Times and Post, quoted some FARA lawyers on why Rudy appeared to have a real legal problem. motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
Giuliani's former pals, Parnas and Fruman got Giuliani to endorse a company called Fraud Guarantee for $500,000 - money they raised by persuading one "investor" to pay Rudy directly. They were later indicted for defrauding that guy, it appears, and others. motherjones.com/politics/2020/…

In new sanctions on Russia, Treasury bars U.S. banks from lending to key Russian gov institutions. That's a response to actions Russia took while facing (narrower) sanctions. Seems certain US will need better diplomacy too to change Kremlin's behavior. home.treasury.gov/news/press-rel…
In designating Konstantin Kilimnik, to whom Paul Manafort gave polling data in 2016, Treasury says that "Kilimnik provided the Russian Intelligence Services with sensitive information on polling and campaign strategy" during that campaign. talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/new-…
While receiving polling data, which OFAC says he gave to Russian intelligence, Kilimnik sought something in return: Trump's support for creating a semi-autonomous pro-Russian Eastern Ukraine. Manafort entertained that idea. motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
