Today, several pro-government tabloids again ran front-page stories linking KRIK to a brutal gang whose members have been arrested and charged with murder, torture, and drug trafficking 3/ balkaninsight.com/2021/07/23/ser…
This latest smear campaign against KRIK started after the outlet published a news story quoting an alleged official statement that a leader of the "Principi" gang gave to prosecutors, saying he did favors for the Serbian government. 4/

NEW: Grieving parents of students killed in the country’s infamous Ayotzinapa massacre appear on a list of people allegedly targeted by the Mexican state for surveillance with Pegasus — spyware from the Israeli firm NSO Group. #PegasusProject. 1/

What is the Ayotzinapa massacre?

In 2014, police in the town of Iguala opened fire on groups of unarmed student teachers.

Six people were shot dead. 43 survivors were arrested to then never be seen again. Parents of the students continue to fight for justice to this day. 2/ Image
Then-President Enrique Pena Nieto admitted in 2017 that his administration purchased Pegasus, but only to spy on drug cartels and criminals like El Chapo, who was captured in 2016 with the help of the spyware.

NSO Group has specialized in breaking into mobile phones since its creation in 2010. But while it may be the best-known "cyber intelligence" firm, it’s far from alone. The for-profit spyware industry ballooned after Edward @Snowden revealed the NSA’s mass surveillance in 2013. 2/

NEW: Pegasus software made by Israeli firm NSO Group was used to spy on the daughter of Rwandan dissident Paul Rusesabagina, whose actions inspired the film Hotel Rwanda.

Who is Paul Rusesabagina?

He has helped set up a coalition of opposition groups against Rwanda’s gov't while living in exile. Last year, he was tricked into boarding a plane that took him to Rwanda, where he faces charges of financing terrorist activities. 2/
Carine Kanimba, Rusesabagina’s daughter, who lives in Belgium, has spearheaded an international campaign to free him.

But we reveal that, as she lobbied leaders in Europe, her phone was infected with Pegasus multiple times. 3/
