[Thread] While condemning vaccine skepticism at home, corporate media are pushing anti-vax conspiracies about the Chinese and Russian vaccines, trying to encourage fear and distrust of them worldwide.

My new report for @MintPressNews

mintpressnews.com/corporate-medi…
Reuters has been particularly guilty of this.

Read the headline and think what it implies. Then read the highlighted passage.

Then remember that most people don't read past the title.
The Brazillian man in this story committed suicide. It was completely unrelated to the vaccine.

So why have the @nytimes reported on it at all? And why did they choose this headline?

The only 2 reasons could be irresponsible clickbait or malign fear-mongering.
For over a year now, the New York Times has been pumping out scare stories about Sinovac/Sinopharm, despite the fact that relevant health experts have assessed them to be safe and effective.
“It’s striking how similar the techniques [are] that Fox News uses to frighten people about the U.S. vaccination campaign and those that The New York Times, Reuters and others use to scare people about Chinese vaccines,” - @JNaureckas of @FAIRmediawatch told me.
The US government is on a worldwide campaign to denigrate the Chinese and Russian vaccines.

A DHHS report proudly asserted that one of its biggest achievements of 2020 was convincing Brazil not to buy Russian vaccines.

Brazil has now lost 550k people.

mintpressnews.com/media-campaign…
Even as they enforce IP laws that ensure the world can't get vaccinated, Western nations are terrified that Russia & China will score diplomatic wins by coming to the planet's rescue with their offerings.

Media are doing their best to stop this happening.
theguardian.com/world/2021/feb…
What Reuters doesn't tell you in its headline is that over 677,000 Thai medical workers have taken Sinovac, meaning that more than 99.9% of them haven't developed COVID- a higher success rate than even US vaccines.

But that would spoil the message they're trying to insinuate.
The US is accelerating towards a new Cold War with Russia and China, and would rather people around the world died than got vaccinated with their products.
While many of us think of COVID as being in the past, the world is actually in the midst of a deadly third wave of infections/deaths.

Many countries have vaccinated less than 1% of their population- mostly because of rich countries hoarding them. The 🇨🇳or🇷🇺 vaccine is a lifeline
Media are also denigrating the new Cuban vaccine, calling it "homemade" as if it is some bathtub moonshine or something + casting aspersions about its safety.

Is their no end to their depravity?
Individuals and even news organizations in the US have been deplatformed, kicked off social media, and had their funding taken away for spreading vaccine skepticism.

But there are zero consequences for our biggest media outlets doing the same to vaccines our enemies produce.
Except, of course, medical consequences for us all. The longer the global south remains unshielded from COVID, the more deadly variants will mutate and spread worldwide, potentially causing millions more deaths.

What corporate media is doing is unbelievably irresponsible.
One last thing: vaccines work. So please get vaccinated. Look at and understand this chart to see how effective they've been in reducing COVID deaths already.

I've been very skeptical of the numbers and images corporate media are using for the Cuba protests🇨🇺.

This is one of the only shots where you get a sense of how big it was.

NBC used it under the headline "thousands protest in Cuba."

I manually count 175 people in this photo.
Why were so many of the pictures used close ups where you couldn't tell how big the action was? That's what politicians do when no one attends their rally.

I might be off by 5 or 10 (the pic quality isn't great). But this ain't thousands.
OMG after they showed that clip they cut to this photo of a PRO-GOVERNMENT demo (note the red and black flags emblazoned with Fidel Castro's political movement, 26 Julio), claiming it was an anti-government protest.

I wrote about this on Friday:

Cuba 🇨🇺: US media play up protests, play down effect of US sanctions.

My new article looking at the media coverage of Cuba for @FAIRmediawatch.

fair.org/home/media-pla…
A ton of corporate media outlets waited until the last paragraph of their stories to even mention the blockade as a reason for the economic problems

This is despite the fact that official US documents explicitly state that the goal is to bring about hunger & a collapse in wages
Corporate media also used pictures of demos in Miami or even the more numerous PRO-government protests to illustrate how big and impressive the anti-government action on the island was.

[Thread] US documents suggest that they had a hand in the protests in Cuba 🇨🇺 earlier this week.

My new investigation for @MintPressNews

mintpressnews.com/documents-poin…
1) Marco Rubio celebrated the protests as being "started by artists, not politicians."

What he doesn't say is that US agencies have been funding those very same art/music communities for years, with CIA fronts, the NED and USAID plowing $$$ into them in in hopes of regime change
2) Cuban hip-hop stars immediately endorsed and even led the demos.

Yet the NED's most recent report notes that it is grooming rappers to become anti-communist leaders.

By inverting the x-axis, CNN's Chris Cuomo manages to take a drop in crime and make it look like it is spiking.

This is a crime against journalism and absolutely blatant fearmongering.
Picture comes from this crazy segment where Cuomo demands more people go to jail, but that "woke society" is preventing it.

As @daviddoel said, it sounds like he is auditioning for a gig on Fox News.

Come to think of it, that Y axis is extremely suspicious, too.

Never trust a chart where the Y-axis doesn't start at zero.

Here's what CNN's graphic would look like reading the correct way and using two reasonable scales.

It defeats the whole point of the segment.

Most people don't read past the headline to know that it was 618 workers out of 677,348 who received the vaccine. Or 0.09%.

The only conclusion is @Reuters is deliberately publishing anti-vax propaganda against the Chinese vaccine.

Unreal levels of irresponsibility.
Reuters has been cynically pumping out anti (Chinese) vax stuff for months.

Read the headline. Think what it implies. Then read the passage below it from half way through the article.
The @nytimes is also in on the action.

If you read the article, you'll know the Brazilian guy in question committed suicide.

So in what world is this in any way newsworthy?

Only if it can be used to pump up fears against China and its vaccine.

[Thread] My new @MintPressNews long form article on why the lab leak has gone viral in independent/alternative media, despite the lack of evidence supporting it.

mintpressnews.com/why-liberals-s…
In recent weeks, alt media stars like @TYT, @ggreenwald, @mtaibbi, @jimmy_dore, @thomasfrank_, and @krystalball have promoted the theory.

This is not an attack on them. Rather, I hope they read this and reconsider their positions.
Much of the new wave of pro-lab leak thought is based on the work of Nicholas Wade, a disgraced racist pseudoscientist who thinks black people are poorer because they're genetically more violent and lazy. Wade's theories on Jews have earned plaudits from the KKK and David Duke. Image
