Sigh... 1. Vaccines work evinced by the fact that 99% of COVID deaths are unvaccinated people.
2. Masks are needed b/c the #DeltaVariant is unlike earlier strains since vaccinated people may have as much viral load as unvaccinated people allowing transmission to others
Anyone that says vaccines don't work is intentionally spreading disinformation. 99% of COVID deaths are unvaccinated people.
Important to note, in countries with high vaccination rates, say 80% (Israel), using percent vax vs. unvaxx deaths is not wise b/c a majority are vaxxed.
If you have
8 million vaxxed
2 million unvaxxed
More vaxxed ppl = more vaccine breakthrough disease; usually in elderly
This leads to vaccine disinformation headlines like 20% of fully vaccinated people are dying, rather than the actual numbers. Ex... Out of 8 million fully vaccinated people, ____ passed away from COVID despite vaccination.
I'm sure someone can explain the concept better than me, but using percent vax vs. unvaxx has been used to push vaccine disinformation.

This 🧵discusses the CDC report of a COVID outbreak in Massachusetts during July 2021. In Q&A format it address vaccination status, hospitalizations, deaths, types of vaccines, symptoms, variants and more. I went through the report line by line. 1/15 cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/7…
During July 2021, 469 cases of COVID-19 associated with multiple summer events and large public gatherings in a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, were identified among Massachusetts residents; vaccination coverage among eligible Massachusetts residents was 69%. 2/15
How many of the 469 infected by COVID were vaccinated?
🔹Vaccinated: 346 (74%)*
🔹Unvaxxed: 123 (26%)
This shows that the vaccine does not prevent transmission. However, the vaccine was created to prevent SEVERE disease, which it does.
Please stop with these headlines! More importantly, only 4 fully vaccinated people were hospitalized and 🚨NONE of them died. This shows that vaccines protect against serious illness, but don’t prevent transmission, so WEAR A MASK and #GetVaccinated
Yesterday I wrote a thread about how few hospitalizations and deaths there are in areas with high vaccination rates such as Massachusetts. The thread compares Israel with Louisiana.
I just spent more time than I originally intended looking at how many people are hospitalized and dying from COVID in Israel, where over 80% of adults are fully vaccinated against COVID. 1/6
Israel conducted the fastest vaccination campaign against COVID so far. Over 80% of adults are fully vaccinated, which is why only 275 people are hospitalized with COVID in the ENTIRE country of 9 million people 2/6 ourworldindata.org/covid-hospital…
🚨There are no pediatric hospital beds in the state of Oklahoma due to the #DeltaVariant. Children are being transferred out of state to Texas. Doctors are calling for a state of emergency.
People have shared that some of the hospitalizations are due to RSV as well. In any case, lack of pediatric hospital beds in the state is concerning.
Sharing this updated post. Transferring children out of state due to lack of pediatric beds amid a pandemic is a problem. Covid strains hospital systems.
I wish my cousin was alive to get vaccinated. He couldn't even get tested for COVID early on in the pandemic even though he went to the emergency room TWICE. He finally got a test at the coroner, which was positive. Some of y'all forget how much we've been through as a nation.
The job is not done, because children under 12 remain ineligible for vaccination. So we will turn our pain into purpose and continue this important work. Thank you everyone.
Rest in peace to my colleagues who lost their lives to this virus. Nurse Mary Sturdivant, Nurse Romy Ocampo Agtarap and Dr. Lorna Breen. #NeverForget
For those new to following me, I've posted deaths from people who have died from COVID since March 2020, when I first treated patients as an ER doctor in New York City, long before vaccines were available. I memorialize the dead to put faces to statistics. 100s in this thread.
Memorializing lives lost to COVID is heavy on the heart, but important work. I've sounded the alarm about this deadly virus throughout the pandemic and will continue. I urge everyone to #GetVaccinated.
I've seen healthy young people die from COVID throughout this pandemic before the #DeltaVariant. I've continued to fight mis/disinformation that it's only obese or elderly people dying. Tragically, my family was blindsided early in the pandemic
