Going to start the thread early today and leave it up as I'm going to try and sleep for a few hours now. What a night. Remember I said 3 or 4 medals today would put GB ahead of projections? They won FIVE including a 6th gold medal.
The gold went to Beth Shreiver in the women's BMX. She was not a favourite coming into the Olympics and ended up holding off the double Olympic champion Mariana Pujon of Colombia. Utterly brilliant and then she swore a fair bit in the interview. (Medal 19).
Kye White was 0.01 seconds away from making it two BMX golds. He won the silver but over jumped on one part of the course so could have done it. Still another unexpected medal and suggests the cycling team is in good nick generally. (Medal 20)..
In the pool Duncan Scott smashes his PB and the British Record by 0.7 seconds to win a 200IM silver. He was touched out by the Chinese swimmer who also got a huge personal best. (Medal 21). And Luke Greenbank won a great 200m bronze. (Medal 22).
In the rowing a very disappointing regatta came to an end with a consolation bronze for the men's 8 (Medal 23). Vicky Thornley came 4th so we had 6 4th place finishes - which is ridiculous. First time GB haven't won a rowing gold since 1984.
Good results elsewhere too. Pat McCormack guaranteed another medal in the boxing by reaching his semi-final and Caroline Dubois got a great win over US fighter Rashida Ellis to make her quarter-final. The rugby 7s women qualified for their QF later this morning.
In the athletics Dina Asher-Smith comfortably qualified for the final. Daryll Neita got her first sub 11 time (10.96) to go through too + Asha Phillp qualified as well. Very fast times in other heats. Asher-Smith will need to break the British Record to win a medal.
All three GB women qualified from the 800m heats. Jemma Reekie, Keely Hodgkinson and Alex Bell.
Sarah Adlington was another 1st round judo exit. Just one bronze for the team, same as in Rio.
Hopefully we'll see GB athletes in the trampoline and K-1 men's slalom later in the morning plus the football and rugby women's QF and more athletics. See you in a bit.
Just woke up to a sixth medal of the day for GB! Bryony Page gets a bronze in the trampolining to go alongside her silver from Rio. That's medal 24 with Bradley Forbes-Cryans still to go in the K-1 slalom final.
And I see that Benjamin Whittacker has got through to his semi-final which means a third guaranteed boxing medal and 8 fighter still going. Really good day for the team and 60+ medals is now very much on.
I think there's now a very realistic possibility of coming 2nd again behind the US in terms of overall medals though I don't see us getting enough golds to challenge China or probably Japan in the traditional medal table format.
(I say probably re Japan because even though they're well ahead at the moment their first week is much stronger than their second week.)
No medal for Bradley Forbes-Cryan. GB will finish today on 24 medals with 6 golds.
A few others bits of news - we still have 6 boats in medal positions in sailing and a 7th in fourth place. Paul Casey four shots off the lead in the golf with two more days to go. Oliver Townend leading the eventing after the first of four dressage groups. Laura Collet up later.
The two fastest times in the women's first round 100m heats would have won medals in the last final. Nuts. Shows how tough it will be for Dina Asher-Smith and that it's a fast track....
Also worth noting that all the runners are wearing the new design spikes that are credited with faster times. New shoes and a fast track should mean a lot of national and regional records and possibly some world records.
Two big shocks in different sports:
The brilliant Fiji women knock defending champions Australia out of the women's rugby 7s.
And Djokovic goes out of the tennis to Zverev in the semi-finals. No golden slam for Novak.
GB women about to play USA in their rugby QF.
Swimming heats about to start. Ben Proud going in heat 11 of the 50m free.
Atheletics starting - first up women's 5k heats. Jess Judd in first + Elish McColgan/Amy-Eloise Markovic in 2.
GB women down 1-0 to Aus at HT in football.
Great win for GB women rugby 7s team against the USA. They'll get a chance to go one better than the men's team in the SFs tomorrow.
Ben Proud through to 50m free SFs 13th fastest. Anna Hopkin goes in heat 11 of the 50m free for women.
Elish McColgan coming up in heat 2 of the 5k. She recently beat Paula Radcliffe's British Record.
So unlucky for Elish McColgan - she got spiked with about 600m to go and was unable to get back it. Hopefully she's OK and will be able to go in the 10k.
Anna Hopkin didn't start in the 50m. Decided to save her for the last leg of the mixed relay tomorrow morning which is a great gold chance. Dan Jervis going in heat 3 of the 1500 free. Best 8 go straight to the final.
For some reason BBC aren't showing the athletics so if you have eurosport check out the mixed 4x400 relay heats in the athletics. GB in heat 2. It's my favourite new event.
After round 2 of 3 of the dressage in the eventing GB are leading the team competition and Oliver Townend is in first place. Laura Collett sitting fourth. Tom McEwan goes tomorrow. The cross-country is on Sunday. Big medal chances.
The GB team make the final with a big national record. USA were DQ'd in the first heat so it's wide open and we have stronger women runners to bring in if they decide to target a medal. Risk is they're tired out for the individual.
The GB women's football team are coming home. Losing 4-2 to Australia in the last minutes of extra time. They were 2-1 up in the 88th min and then had a pen to go 3-2 up. They will be kicking themselves.
Men's 10k final coming up in the athletics.
Interview of the day from NZ rugby player Ruby Tui. With bonus Maori.
Dan Jervis through the 1500m free final in 5th fastest time. Now it's the mixed medley heats in the pool. Women first, then men. GB in the 2nd heat of both.
Fascinating 10k final won by Barega of Ethiopia. Ugandans got silver and bronze but messed up their tactics I think and missed the gold.
GB women's 4x100 medley team didn't make the final in the pool. They rested the two swimmers who'll be in the 4x100 mixed medley in the morning where we have a real gold chance. Peaty has also been rested from the men's.
GB men make it through 2nd fastest to the final without Peaty who'd have given them another 2 seconds. US used a B team though so will be a big challenge as will Australia, China and Italy. Should be a brilliant final.
And that's all the sport for the day. Really strong day for GB. 6 medals and an unexpected gold. 6 golds and 24 medals overall. At this point in Rio it was 7 golds and 22 medals. In London 8 golds and 22 medals.
The GB Tokyo 20 team up to equal 12th against previous GB teams. Going past Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona, Moscow, London 48 and equal with Melbourne and Seoul.
There has been popular demand (OK three people) for a weighted version of this table by number of events in the various Olympics which I will do at the end of the tournament. Suffice to say we're still doing pretty well this time + we're not yet half way through.
I will be back later with the preview of day 8 - more big medal chances in swimming, mixed trialthlon relay, shooting, boxing and a guaranteed sailing medal. Plus can Dina Asher-Smith make it in to the 100m medals?

As we move into the second week the GB focused action moves later in the morning (thank god I'm exhausted). Relatively quiet day on the medal front tomorrow before a potentially very big day on Tuesday.
Tomorrow's best chances are in the eventing which comes to its conclusion with the team showjumping at 9am and the individual at 12.45pm. GB sit top of the team competition and Oliver Townend / Laura Collett / Tom McEwen in 1st, 3rd and 6th place individually.
We also have a good chance in the men's skiff medal race at 7.33am where Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell currently lie in 2nd place. Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey sit 5th for the women's skiff medal race at 6.33am, having lost a good position from earlier in the week.
Late start today as I was up watching during the night and then fell asleep...three medals overnight. Two more in BMX, including another gold, and a historic swimming relay silver for GB.
Charlotte Worthington won a surprise gold in the BMX freestyle beating favourite Hannah Roberts of the US with a brilliant run. (9th gold, 29th medal). Declan Brooks got a bronze in the men's freestyle (medal 30).
In the swimming our 4x100 medley men (Greenbank, Peaty, Guy, Scott) pushed the US all the way. They had to break the WR to beat us. The silver (medal 31) makes Duncan Scott the first Brit to win four medals in a single games. And overall the best GB result ever in swimming.
At the halfway point GB are tracking slightly above predictions - the big medal sports in the second week will be boxing, sailing, equestrian and hopefully track cycling. I don't expect much from athletics, especially with poor Dina out.
Our best chances on day 9 are probably in the pool again - where we have already had our best ever games. The men's mixed medley relay (3.36am) will be Greenbank, Peaty, Guy, Scott - all medalists. A medal will make Scott the 1st Brit to win four in one games.
We also have Ben Proud in the 50m free at 2.30am - who is very unlikely to beat Dressel but has a shot at a medal. And Dan Jervis in the 1500m free at 2.44. A less likely medalist but not impossible.
A double gold night for GB with gold in two mixed relays - the triathlon and 4x100 mixed medley. These new events suiting us really well....
In the mixed relay triathlon last night GB won a thrilling race. Jess Learmonth did a great opening leg to get us to the front. Johnny Brownlee the fastest leg of anyone in the field to give us a lead and then Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee were able hold off the US + France.
That was gold 7 and medal 25. A few hours later the swimmers won their 4th gold (the most by a GB team since 1908) in the 4x100 mixed medley. Peaty swam at 56.78 split, faster than his world record, James Guy did a 50 + then Anna Hopkin held off the field. Gold 8. Medal 26.
Alex Yee getting back on to Luis's wheel after he shot past him on the bike was the key moment on that last lap. Incredibly calm from someone so inexperienced.
It won't quite be up there with super saturday in London (rowing done, cycling next week) but we already have one medal guaranteed tomorrow and anther 6 chances, 7 if we're being generous, and some potentially golden ones in there.
First up we have more late night triathlon action with the mixed relay. 2 men and 2 women each do a mini-triathlon (300m swim, 6.6k bike ride, 1k run). We have a v strong team and the two gold medal winners aren't competing. A gold medal chance. (11.30pm tonight).
Overnight we have another big swimming chance in another mixed relay - the 4x100 medley. With Peaty on the breaststroke leg it's a real chance for a gold and we qualified fastest for the final but the US used a B team. (3.43am)
