Late start today as I was up watching during the night and then fell asleep...three medals overnight. Two more in BMX, including another gold, and a historic swimming relay silver for GB.
Charlotte Worthington won a surprise gold in the BMX freestyle beating favourite Hannah Roberts of the US with a brilliant run. (9th gold, 29th medal). Declan Brooks got a bronze in the men's freestyle (medal 30).
In the swimming our 4x100 medley men (Greenbank, Peaty, Guy, Scott) pushed the US all the way. They had to break the WR to beat us. The silver (medal 31) makes Duncan Scott the first Brit to win four medals in a single games. And overall the best GB result ever in swimming.
No other medals (Paul Casey is currently in a playoff with McIllroy and 5 others for a golf bronze) but we did guaranteed another boxing medal after Fraser Clarke's French opponent Mourad Aliev was DQ'd for repeatedly headbutting him. Aliev then had a tantrum + punched a camera.
Pat McCormack and Ben Whittaker both won their semi-finals and so will both fight for gold later in the week. Boxers doing very well. Also doing well are the sailors, with 5 boats in the top 3 still and 2 in first place (Finn and women's 470).
Also doing well are the eventing trio who all cleared the cross country course with no penalties giving the team a good lead going into jumping tomorrow. Oliver Townend is in the individual gold spot too and Laura Collett is in the bronze position.
Annoyingly Australia won 4 golds - one of their best ever days - and are now 5 ahead of us. We can catch them up still but the race for medal table top 5 got a lot harder.
Anyway in a couple of hours we have Max Whitlock trying to defend his Pommel Horse title and then the athletics finishing with a wide open 100 metre men's final.
No golf medal for Paul Casey. Falls at the first playoff hole. Max Whitlock the last chance to add to the total today.
This is Charlotte Worthington's gold run. It's pretty cool. Also looking at results in more detail, Peaty did a 56.53 split in the 4x100 medley relay which I'm pretty sure is his fastest ever (and so the faster ever in the world).
In the morning athletics heats Lizzie Bird did well to make the steeplechase final as a fastest loser and Abigail Irozuru/Jazz Sawyers qualified for the long jump final. Quite an open final that one - though they wouldn't be expected to get a medal.
So pleased for Rebecca Andrade of Brazil winning the vault gold after just being pipped to the all-around title. Brazil and Israel with the golds this morning - not traditional gymnastics powerhouses...
Max Whitlock gets by far his biggest score of the week in the Pommel Horse. He was first to go and is leading with 5 more to go (a few of them can definitely beat his score if they nail their routine). I don't have nails left to bite by week 2 of the Olympics.
Max has a medal. Still leading with 2 to go. His big rival Rhys Clenaghan is up next. Eek.
Clenaghan falls. Poor guy. Max definitely getting a silver. The highest qualifier Kameyana of Japan is the last to go. Can definitely beat Max too. Fingers crossed.
MAX WHITLOCK RETAINS HIS OLYMPIC TITLE! BRILLIANT. 10TH GOLD FOR GB.
That's his SIXTH Olympic medal and third gold. Easily the most successful gymnast in GB history.
Ooh Zharnel Hughes just won his 100m SF in 9.98! In the final. And beat Brommell.
Wow where did that 3rd semi-final come from?! Su Bingtian of China smashed the Asian record with a 9.83. Ronnie Baker of US got 9.83. Lamont Jacobs of Italy broke the European Record in 9.84. Fastest SF by miles so Brommell - the pre-games favourite is out.
7 of 8 athletes in the final went sub 10. 10 dead wasn't enough to make the final as fastest loser for the first time ever I think.
Max Whitlock is the seventh GB Olympian to win 6 medals or more alongside Wiggins, Hoy, Jason Kenny, Redgrave, Charlotte Dujardin and Duncan Scott. Three added to the list in these games.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico breaks the 100m hurdles Olympic Record in the semi-final.12.26 - fourth fastest time ever. World Record holder Kenny Harrison of the US will also be in the final, as will Brittany Anderson of Jamaica who did a 12.40. No Brits in the final.
Agony for Elliot Giles and Daniel Rowden in the 800m SFs - Giles came 3rd in his SF and Rowden fifth - he could have come through but got boxed. Nigel Amos the favourite fell in the last heat and is out. Yulimar Rojas broke the OR in the triple jump - 15.41. So close to WR.
Brilliant men's high jump final. Four men over 2.35. I've never seen that before. Not sure it's ever happened. (OR is 2.39. WR is 2.45 - one of the longest standing - 1993).
If you like hockey - GB have just started their QF against India.
WORLD RECORD for Yulimar Rojas of Venzuala in the Triple Jump - 15.67. 17 cms past the previous best. Only Venzuala's 3rd ever gold too.
Right. 100m final. Honestly these medals could go absolutely anywhere in any order. No Jamaican. First time they won't win 100m gold - men's or women's - since 2004.
Jacobs of Italy win the gold in another European record 9.79! Certainly the first time Italy have won a major 100m. And just after Tamberi. An Italian Super Sunday. Zharnel was DQ'd for a blatant false start.
Only 2 people DQ'd across all the men's 100 and they were both Brits. Disappointing.
Anyway just waiting for the men's hockey QF to finish but barring a late comeback GB are going to go out to India so I will wrap up today's thread with the medal stats.
Two golds and 4 medals for GB today to take the totals to 10 golds and 32 medals. Comparison at this point with previous games:
GB back to 1 down in the hockey so keep an eye on that. Anyway will be back later with the preview for Day 10 - a bit of a quieter day medal wise before a big day on Tuesday but v good chances in eventing and sailing plus the start of the track cycling.

As we move into the second week the GB focused action moves later in the morning (thank god I'm exhausted). Relatively quiet day on the medal front tomorrow before a potentially very big day on Tuesday.
Tomorrow's best chances are in the eventing which comes to its conclusion with the team showjumping at 9am and the individual at 12.45pm. GB sit top of the team competition and Oliver Townend / Laura Collett / Tom McEwen in 1st, 3rd and 6th place individually.
We also have a good chance in the men's skiff medal race at 7.33am where Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell currently lie in 2nd place. Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey sit 5th for the women's skiff medal race at 6.33am, having lost a good position from earlier in the week.
At the halfway point GB are tracking slightly above predictions - the big medal sports in the second week will be boxing, sailing, equestrian and hopefully track cycling. I don't expect much from athletics, especially with poor Dina out.
Our best chances on day 9 are probably in the pool again - where we have already had our best ever games. The men's mixed medley relay (3.36am) will be Greenbank, Peaty, Guy, Scott - all medalists. A medal will make Scott the 1st Brit to win four in one games.
We also have Ben Proud in the 50m free at 2.30am - who is very unlikely to beat Dressel but has a shot at a medal. And Dan Jervis in the 1500m free at 2.44. A less likely medalist but not impossible.
A double gold night for GB with gold in two mixed relays - the triathlon and 4x100 mixed medley. These new events suiting us really well....
In the mixed relay triathlon last night GB won a thrilling race. Jess Learmonth did a great opening leg to get us to the front. Johnny Brownlee the fastest leg of anyone in the field to give us a lead and then Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee were able hold off the US + France.
That was gold 7 and medal 25. A few hours later the swimmers won their 4th gold (the most by a GB team since 1908) in the 4x100 mixed medley. Peaty swam at 56.78 split, faster than his world record, James Guy did a 50 + then Anna Hopkin held off the field. Gold 8. Medal 26.
Alex Yee getting back on to Luis's wheel after he shot past him on the bike was the key moment on that last lap. Incredibly calm from someone so inexperienced.
It won't quite be up there with super saturday in London (rowing done, cycling next week) but we already have one medal guaranteed tomorrow and anther 6 chances, 7 if we're being generous, and some potentially golden ones in there.
First up we have more late night triathlon action with the mixed relay. 2 men and 2 women each do a mini-triathlon (300m swim, 6.6k bike ride, 1k run). We have a v strong team and the two gold medal winners aren't competing. A gold medal chance. (11.30pm tonight).
Overnight we have another big swimming chance in another mixed relay - the 4x100 medley. With Peaty on the breaststroke leg it's a real chance for a gold and we qualified fastest for the final but the US used a B team. (3.43am)
Going to start the thread early today and leave it up as I'm going to try and sleep for a few hours now. What a night. Remember I said 3 or 4 medals today would put GB ahead of projections? They won FIVE including a 6th gold medal.
The gold went to Beth Shreiver in the women's BMX. She was not a favourite coming into the Olympics and ended up holding off the double Olympic champion Mariana Pujon of Colombia. Utterly brilliant and then she swore a fair bit in the interview. (Medal 19).
Kye White was 0.01 seconds away from making it two BMX golds. He won the silver but over jumped on one part of the course so could have done it. Still another unexpected medal and suggests the cycling team is in good nick generally. (Medal 20)..
