One of my local hospitals' ER is closing until staffing can be improved.

This hospital has had multiple outbreaks.

And an IPC that blamed the staff for the outbreaks, instead of droplet dogma.

On a more cheerful note, looks like this is nation wide.
Also nation-wide - mass groups of people. Bars. Concerts.

I made the mistake of going to map.snapchat.com tonight and panning around the nation and zooming in.

If I was an an HCW....

Let's just say a staffing shortage will be coming to a hospital near you.
As it has come to Texas.


They have a huge need for nurses - they have patients in every nook and cranny.

Before, the state sent them staffing. Not now, although the state would get reimbursed by the federal government.

So,each hospital is on its own. Image
Although the hospitals are low on staff due to burnout. Image
I am not surprised by the burnout.

⚠️ We denied them airborne PPE.
⚠️ Blamed them for getting infected although they were using droplet protection enforced by IPC.
⚠️ Every single state and federal government is pushing reopening. Blue and red. Is there is a state that isn't?
⚠️ Their Facebook is full of videos of their community engaged in a life back to normal. Birthday parties, etc.

Absolutely fantastic and timely piece on ICU teams....if you don't have the staff for them ☝️☝️,
then your ICU's start to have issues.

Whether you are there for a heart attack or CoVid, you are then one less nurse closer to death. Literally

Statewide capacity doesn't help you if the only available ICU is across the state.


Only 10% of the available nurses are ICU nurses. And ICU work is very complex.

If I was @benwakana46, this is what I would do:

1. Mask-hatten Project to deliver N100 elastomeric masks to every man, woman, and child in the USA like the British did in WWII. Use the DPA to get this done.

2. School-hatten Project to put good quality portable HEPA filters
every single classroom. Lunch tents outside every school. Be creative.

3. PublicVent-hatten - portable HEPA filters in every public facility.

4. Truth-hatten
4a. saturate the airways with actual footage of ICU's. Interviews with nurses. Show the damn truth.
Show people getting intubated. Show them dying in their own mucus - only with full written consent, of course.
