It hurts to see profit prioritised over safety time and time again; Greed and Corruption cost us 72 of our loved one’s lives, But whilst we’ve been campaigning for peoples safety, the government has been networking money to power. 2/6
We fought for the social housing white paper to be included in the Queens Speech, to help reform the sector from its current crisis. Was it added? No. Instead government added the planning Bill. Why? 3/6
Could it be because “£18m has been given to the Conservative party from property sector donors since July 2019 when boris Johnson entered Downing Street”. 4/6
This secretive club for major conservative donors is called the “Advisory Board” whilst it exists our government doesn’t work for the people, it works for money. 5/6
THREAD Yesterday and this morning we heard the evidence of Claire Williams of the KCTMO, who was the project manager of the redevelopment of Grenfell Tower. What we heard was a catalogue of indifference to fire safety.
There was the issues with the smoke clearance system (Automatic Opening Vent, the 'AOV') which meant it was left broken for over a year, without anyone being told it was not working, they told it was partially functional. Residents were not told of this, even when they asked.
Many fire safety concerns were not followed up on, including the lifts which were not controlled in the event of a fire and went to the bottom of the tower, which was controlled by Rydon during the redevelopment and was no longer an exit.
THREAD: The fire safety bill is back in the commons. Government is using the excuse that the amendment will delay Grenfell recommendations.
The amendment is to protect leaseholders from charges. The FSB is separate & it is wrong to claim support of it damages recommendations 1/4
Using Grenfell Recommendations to justify government’s indifference is deeply upsetting for us and shows they’d rather protect the corporates responsible from paying for the mess they created. 2/4
Our request is simple: implement Grenfell recommendations make homes safe & protect lease holders from financial ruin.
Nearly 4 years since Grenfell and yet not a single piece of legislation has been passed. Homes have to be made safe this is a basic human right.3/4
