The fact that no progressive US academic has written a single peer reviewed article about US DOJ partnership in the Lava Jato investigation - public knowledge since 2016 - which illegally imprisoned Lula and helped elect Bolsonaro - is a damning indictment of the US left.
A friend at UCLA spent a month searching, all he could find were writings by conservative legal scholars, essentially FCPA specialists, praising the investigation.
The US DOJ has been publishing articles on its own website about its partnership with Lava Jato since 2016, top officials have talked about it in speeches and there is a trail of court documents involving Lava Jato in the Southern NY district. justice.gov/opa/pr/odebrec…
I won't even start on the progressive US media. Even Jacobin failed to mention this public knowledge until the Intercept published an article on the FBI's role in the operation based on Operation Spoofing leaks in 2020.
Maybe 50 years from now, some future hipster will write a Jakarta Method style book on it.
The only sectors of the US left which have been working on this issue are the AFL-CIO and a small group of democrats, led by Hank Johnson, who've started 2 Congressional inquiries on the DOJ's role in the investigation. brasilwire.com/congress-membe…
Meanwhile, endless arguments and commentary by self-proclaimed leftist US academics about subjects such as whether victims of murderous sanctions like Cuba and Nicaragua are "state capitalist" or "authoritarian."
