1. RJNB is pleased with the government's decision to fund this research project.
We agree that this funding does not solve the systemic issues that forced #SaveClinic554 to close most of its services... cbc.ca/news/canada/ne…
2. ...and we are frustrated that we, and many others, have poured countless hours of protest & advocacy into trying to move the provincial government to #Axe8420 and #FundClinicAbortions.
3. The federal grant will not fund the medical services that #Clinic554 provided. But it provides funding to properly research & document abortion barriers in New Brunswick, a province that stubbornly clings to a practice of state misogyny, not least by restricting abortion.
4. This federal research funding came about as a result of continued pressure across the political spectrum, including Greens and NDP, local and national communities of activists and of health professionals.
5. In particular, we would like to thank @MPWayneLong, who was the first member of the federal government who was willing to sit down and talk to us about how to engage his government in providing help to eliminate abortion restrictions in #NBPoli.
6. RJNB volunteers and the research spent long hours over many months putting the research application together. We are eager to get started.
7. We will also continue with our other advocacy work on these issues. For us, that has always meant taking advantage of any opportunities we can find or make to press for #ReproductiveJustice, which for us always includes queer & trans health care...
8. ...racial justice, disability justice, housing justice, environmental justice, & health care for all.
We will also continue to support @cancivlib in their litigation to #Axe8420.
We will keep campaigning to #SaveClinic554 & to open similar community clinics throughout NB.
