I and a handful of others have sounded the alarm about these new touchscreen voting machines (BMDs) for years. ES&S and Dominion both sell them. A few others do too. They flew under the radar bc administrators & vendors now call them “paper ballot” systems. 8/
But unlike paper ballots marked by hand with a pen, they put a machine between voters and their ballots, creating too much unnecessary complexity that raises the specter of miscalibration, screen freezes, faulty programming, long lines, printer jams, failure to activate, etc. 9/

Georgia rejected expert advice when it chose these new touchscreen systems, rather than #HandMarkedPaperBallots for most in person voters. The Republican-led legislature insisted on these touchscreens. Most or all Democrats votes instead for #HandMarkedPaperBallots. 11/

An add’l concern is that even #HandMarkedPaperBallots do no good if no one looks at them meaningfully or at all. Right now, Georgia plans to audit only one race every other year (chosen by the Secretary of State, not at random), which is pathetic. #gapol 14/
