My doctors insisted on an ambulance in February because I couldn’t breathe properly and they couldn’t examine me because of covid restrictions. I insisted I was fine and was *terrified* I’d be hit with a bill like this, they sent one anyway. Just to check my vitals.
the most horrifying thing was all I needed was someone to listen to my chest and the doctor’s refused… they said if you might need an x-Ray this is what they do here. You can’t just have your doctor book an appointment at the hospital to get an x-Ray the way you can in the UK...
Turned out it was spending all my time indoors with Tozi when I have a dog allergy and all I needed was a hepa filter. Two fire trucks turned up! It was SO embarrassing. 🤦♀️
It was SUCH a horrendous waste of resources thrust upon my by the doctors who refused to accept my saying it wasn’t serious.
All I needed was someone to check my chest.

The public debate about #disinformation, influence operations and responses… is lacking scrutiny & real debate over rapidly developing defence policies and military responses, esp on ethics. If only public expert discussions got as focused in the weeds on this as on #BigTech.
What discussions do happen seem to be driven my ex-military personnel and very focused on the ‘how to’ of understanding enemies and developing messages and targeting etc… as usual.
It upsets me so much to think that people watched these updates & failed to call a doctor, failed to call an ambulance. Now media share them to the already convinced -do anti-vaxxers even see these? Are they persuaded by the subtle victim shaming, in the face of national tragedy?
It’s exploitative, most of them aren’t framed in a way that they would actually connect with a persuadable leaning anti-vaxxer. I’m sick of seeing them. It feels wrong.
If you’re going to share something like this as a journalist or someone with an influential account the least you should be doing is trying to frame it in such a way that it’s a compassionate appeal to convince that audience. Few are.
This misleading propaganda website by @ukhomeoffice which hides its source and aims to deter asylum seekers seems to also raise questions of compliance with UK data law. I recently FOIA’d the @ukhomeoffice on compliance: whatdotheyknow.com/request/726991…
They claim to be compliant with data law… now I’m wondering if this was correct @GeorgeChiesa@RaviNa1k sadly they refused my request for docs on grounds of time/quantity. I will follow up on this…
All the articles telling us big data driven AI was now going to save us after all and we had to get over pre-covid privacy worries. During digital dependency we need privacy more than ever.
There are many ways data can help us but not without careful regulations that make sure it’s protected, safe, effective and for the public good… not just a bunch of companies capitalising on crisis.
“In the end, many hundreds of predictive tools were developed. None of them made a real difference, and some were potentially harmful”
Political Communication departments please when you are writing your recruitment ads and planning your futures can you try and keep a little open minded? Always you specify scholars who use quantitative methods, data analytics and surveys focused on understanding public 1/
opinion and political behavior… you ask for people studying power by focusing only on the powerless - some of us take a normative position that marginalised communities & indeed the public in general get researched and poked and prodded and experimented on to understand what 2/
makes them tick A LOT already… because we are visible - while powerful people and systems they use to control are not in focus and remain under researched because they are difficult to study and opaque. 3/
As a reminder here are my two articles which were important to reporting on the unfolding events... Thanks again for @davidpugliese amazing reporting and for picking up on what I discovered and sharing it with Canada! occrp.org/en/blog/13225-…
