Every time you go online, the terms you search, the links you click, and the decisions you make are logged and tracked in all manner of ways. Here are some tips on how you can cover some of those tracks—and maybe even not leave any in the first place: wired.trib.al/QptV2TT 1/5
Go Incognito.
Most browsers have an Incognito or Private mode option for web browsing. It stops them from saving your search history and storing cookies on your device, but it doesn’t stop your employer or internet service provider from seeing it. 2/5
Use a VPN.
What Incognito does for your device, a VPN does for everyone else. It also allows you to pretend you’re accessing the web from a different country which can come in handy, too. 3/5
Clear Your Browsing History.
If you haven’t been using a VPN or a private mode, you may want to head into your browser and clear your history yourself. Keep in mind it may be on your machine and in something like Google’s cloud, but you can clear both. 4/5
If that isn’t enough, you can take it a step further with browsers like Tor that are built for maximum protection, or even TailsOS, an operating system built around Tor.
