We need to properly design pediatric N95 / KN95 / PPF2 / KF94 masks for kids. @NIOSH needs to get on setting standards and certifying kids respirators. Too much transmission and too many kids hospitalized with #DeltaVariant these days. #COVID19 @nioshbreathe @USDOL
2) we need to mask kids in school damnit. The #DeltaVariant is a clear and present danger to kids now. Hospitalization numbers don’t lie.

4) there are premium masks for kids. But @NIOSH still needs to certify N95.
5) premium masks for kids now! We have no time!

Take this seriously—“There is growing evidence that—for whatever reason (higher viral loads, etc)—children infected by #DeltaVariant may develop a more severe form of the disease compared to illness caused by other forms of the virus.”—it’s true. #COVID19
cnn.com/2021/08/02/opi…
2) we have been seeing pediatric ICUs filling up more than ever before during the pandemic.
3) Pediatric hospitalizations now at an ALL TIME record high during the pandemic. Let that sink in. And it’s still surging more.

📍The good news is vaccines work—lower mortality of an 80-year-old down to ➡️unvaxxed 50-year-old; a vaxxed 50 -year-old➡️unvaxxed 30-year-old. This has prevented scores of deaths & hospitalizations.📍But the bad news—vaccines vs #DeltaVariant are leaky.🧵

2) “Leaky vaccines probably put herd immunity out of reach, especially when faced with [the] Delta [#DeltaVariant],” Kit Yates said. Image
3) “some now think that imperfect protection offered by the vaccine against infection meant herd immunity could be “impossible” without vaccine uptake of above 90%—of all people including kids, not just of the eligible. google.com/amp/s/amp.ft.c…

Over 6,000 Louisiana children now have #COVID19–an increase of more than 3,000 cases in just four days. ➡️Median age of Hospitalized kids has worryingly dropped from 16 in June to just 12 in July. Younger kids are more affected than ever by #DeltaVariant.

2) We must have more premium masks for kids!!
3) “Ochsner Medical Center reported this week that the new average age of a pediatric COVID-19 patient is now **5-years-old** ⚠️

In June, the average age of a child admitted with COVID-19 was 16-years-old. In July, the average age dropped to 12-years-old.” Today, 5 years old!!!

I cry for the people of Lebanon—so much hunger, no electricity. “The supply of medicines has also become unreliable. At a pharmacy, a line stretched, where anxious shoppers sought medicines that are now scarce, such as pain killers & blood pressure meds.” nytimes.com/2021/08/04/wor…
2) “In a country once billed as the Switzerland of the Middle East, the banks are largely insolvent. Education has suffered as teachers and professors seek better opportunities abroad. And health care has deteriorated as reduced salaries caused an exodus of doctors and nurses.”
3) “The emergency ward at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, among the country’s best, has gone to seven physicians, from 12, and lost more than half of its 65 nurses since July 2020, said Eveline Hitti, the head of the department.

BREAKING—Florida is caught underreporting #COVID19 deaths by 3.5x. Instead of the reported “175” deaths, the actual net increase in #COVID deaths is 616 in one week. Fuzzy math @GovRonDeSantis?

HT @BNODesk.
2) So what is going on? 175 is the *currently known & reported* deaths for the past week, yes, but death reporting in Florida is NOTORIOUSLY SLOW—most deaths reports weeks or months late. 616 is the backfill report of *newly discovered deaths*… same thing in May… let’s dive in—
3) so where are the extra deaths from? They are the notoriously slow backfilling of new death reports of deaths that occurred in prior weeks. But this also means that the “40” deaths below are completely meaningless if most actual deaths are discovered and reported later.
