According to a letter from the superintendent (cherrycreekschools.org/Page/13691) 90% of students in 6th grade fall into the age group ineligible to receive the vaccine.
Superintendent Christopher Smith says he spoke with Dr. John Douglas, who heads the Tri-County Health Department today - prompting this decision. Douglas told him current conditions in schools aren't safe for unvaccinated children without masks.
The letter from Douglas says Tri-County's board will hold a public comment meeting on Monday to decide whether a public health order requiring masking in schools is necessary.
As far as I can tell, Cherry Creek Schools is the only district in Tri-County's jurisdiction with a mask mandate. The bigger districts: Aurora, Adams 12, Douglas and Littleton all encourage but don't require masks for kiddos in the unvaccinated categories.
