Only good news is the Israeli Palestinian collaboration to deal with the fires today & as a result, Israel cancelling its request for international help. I hope both Israelis & Palestinians realise that Americans can dump them just like die with Afghanistan & finalize a deal ASAP
The only reliable partners for Israelis should be the Palestinians and the only reliable partners for the Palestinians should be the Israelis. 70 years of Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs living together (regardless of political circumstances) means they are almost identical
Neither side - Israelis or Palestinians should let foreigners interfere: Americans, Arabs, Iranians, Turks etc etc. Just deal directly because as Afghanistan should teach us, don’t rely on foreign support
And I really hope, as the late Israeli president Ezer Weizman personally told me that he hopes Israel stops relying on American support to continue existing. And I’d say exactly same for Palestinians.
If Israelis and Palestinians wait for Americans or any other foreign power to impose a solution, it will never happen. They will only end up with ethnic cleansing of Jews and Arabs and never ending fighting just like in Afghanistan.
Only nations who are out of their mind would say to the Americans: Hello, you’ve done so well in Afghanistan, can you help us in Israel/Palestine please?
As a Palestinian, recognising Israel means recognising Israel as a Jewish, Hebrew speaking state, no ifs and no buts. Because the other side of the coin is a Muslim/Christian Arab-speaking Palestinian state. Everything else are minor details.
Demographics and territorial contiguity are no reason to define the viability of a Palestinian state. Those are just excuses used by those who don’t want a solution and want to perpetuate the conflict

Tawakul Karman, member of @Facebook Oversight Board (which I’ve warned about endlessly) celebrates Taliban win and wishes other Islamic movements follow the Taliban route. This woman oversees content on @Facebook
From one of my many previous warnings about @Facebook appointment of Karman. Will @nickclegg and @facebook now act and terminate and apologise for her scandalous appointment?
Over a year ago, French Senator @senateur61 wrote about the danger of Facebook appointment of Karman….@Facebook did absolutely nothing. Now Karman calls openly for Islamic movements to be like Taliban, ie resort to terrorism lefigaro.fr/vox/societe/lu…
Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual arm - Islamic Union of Muslim Scholars, full of praise of the Taliban win. Half a dozen statements and articles including by its head, calling it “liberation”, and calling Britain and the US “occupiers”. MB runs 400+ mosques in Britain…
From the Muslim Brotherhood statement: “The International Union of Muslim Scholars is optimistic and optimistic and congratulates the Afghan people and its leadership, especially in the Taliban movement, on these steps and on this new stage that has begun..iumsonline.org/ar/ContentDeta…
Given the very open pro Taliban and unequivocally anti British and American Muslim Brotherhood statements, I reiterate my calls for them to be proscribed in the U.K…what more do we need to do it?
Everything back in its place. 20 years ago, the ONLY channel Taliban allowed to operate in Kabul was Aljazeera. Tonight, they together celebrate victory inside the Presidential palace. Also tonight, Taliban are running the show from the home of Aljazeera, Qatar. #Afghanistan
Also 20 years ago, Bin Laden out of Afghanistan decided to give Aljazeera exclusive footage of him taking responsibility for 9/11. Until when do we keep burying our heads in the sand?!
2 years ago, I warned how Aljazeera on its Arabic channel was promoting Taliban. Here is one tweet from 2019…(forget Aljazeera English, watch Aljazeera Arabic the channel that radicalises Arab speaking youth)
Major development: Tunisian president sacks government, gives himself executive power, parliament calls it coup…total political chaos. Tunisia tonight is undergoing its most serious test since the Arab spring…it may turn very ugly and descend into civil war like Algeria in 90s
What is happening in Tunisia is - again, an Arab first. It’s effectively a struggle between staunch islamism vs staunch secularism. Only comparison is Algeria in the 1990s, but with wider Euro-Med-Arab implications here
Unlike Algeria, there hasn’t been widespread Islamist militancy in Tunisia, except ISIS. Will Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Ennahda now invoke MB’s ideological links to militant Islamists in Tunisia? That is the big question and big test for MB…stakes couldn’t be higher
.@British_Airways I understand u will be reducing TLV service after Israel said it would ban Israelis from travelling to UK due to Covid- I think unjustified as Covid cases are now dropping in UK. I hope u make representations to Isr reconsider this ban @UKinJerusalem@ukinisrael
Since the Israeli government announced plan to ban Israelis from entering the U.K. due to Covid, Covid in the Uk dropped by 40% week on week. Almost everyone in Britain is vaccinated. Important for @British_Airways and UK authorities to explain to Israeli counterparts
And for the record, I am tweeting this onboard a @British_Airways flight from Tel Aviv to London. Many passengers and BA staff very worried about impact of Israeli government decision to add UK to red list. Cc @UKinJerusalem@ukinisrael
Here’s a prediction on France vs Turkey. The next battle ground will be Lebanon. Turkey is already on the ground in Lebanon but nowhere as much as Iran and France. Increasing unrest in Lebanon today increases likelihood of Turkey going into Lebanon. Before end of 2021.
Turkey will do all it can to effectively recolonise northern Lebanon. What is happening in Lebanon now creates this opening for Turkey.
This is important because so far, Sunni support for Lebanon has mainly been from the Gulf. Turkey wants to change this, and create a Sunni Islamist enclave in the north. This would greatly destabilise the Levant, just like Turkey’s intervention in Syria did.
