New paper in @bmj_latest !! "Associations of BNT162b2 vaccination with SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospital admission and death with covid-19 in nursing homes and healthcare workers in Catalonia: prospective cohort study" #COVID19Vaccines Plain English 🧵 bmj.com/content/374/bm…
1/6) We used routine health data from primary care and hospital records linked to lab tests and mortality data, and studied 28,456 nursing home residents, 26,170 nursing home staff, and 61,791 healthcare workers
2) NH residents were of special interest as they are most vulnerable but were under-represented in previous clinical trials. We followed participants for almost 6 months, and looked at the effect of vaccination against #COVID19 infection, hospitalization, and mortality
3) We compared vaccinated to unvaccinated person-time using a time-varying exposure. 2482 NH residents had #COVID19, with 411 hospitalized, and 450 dead during the study period. In parallel, 1828 nursing home staff and 2968 healthcare workers were diagnosed with #COVID19
4) MAIN FINDINGS: Vaccination was associated with 80-91% reductions in #COVID19 disease in all three cohorts. Even greater reductions were seen amongst nursing home residents in hospital admissions and mortality, with 95% and 97% relative risk reductions respectively
5) These data confirm the striking effects of #COVID19Vaccine to reduce infections, admissions and mortality with #COVID19 in routine health care, and in the most vulnerable people, who were under-represented in previous trials.
6/6) In addition, these findings demonstrate the success of the Catalan vaccination campaign and similar ones (eg UK): by prioritising NH residents & staff and healthcare workers, they have minimised the burden of #COVID19 whilst reducing transmission to vulnerable people
P.S.) Thanks go to @CarmenCabezas10 , @ErmengolComa , to all who gladly accepted vaccination to protect themselves and their patients and contacts, and to all the colleagues who collect real world data and/or make it usable for research

Nuevo articulo publicado en @bmj_latest : "Associations of BNT162b2 vaccination with SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospital admission and death with covid-19 in nursing homes and healthcare workers in Catalonia: prospective cohort study" .
Nou article al @bmj_latest "Associations of BNT162b2 vaccination with SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospital admission and death with covid-19 in nursing homes and healthcare workers in Catalonia: prospective cohort study" .
100 years since women were admitted as full members @UniofOxford . What a waste all the previous years without them! Meet 100 amazing women with whom I'm lucky to work @OxfordMedScimedsci.ox.ac.uk/100-women-of-o… . A thread on a few I know more closely (alphabetical order)🧵
