Panchang is an accumulation of various lunisolar calendars used widely in Vedic Astrology.
It a method of timekeeping differs on the basis of Sun or Moon Cycle,months & beginning of new year.
Record of important auspicious dates,astrological data are presented in a tabular form based on the position of planets, stars and Hindu deities a panchang is developed.
It is derived from Sanskrit, 'Panch' which means 'Five' & 'Ang' which means 'Limbs'.
The Five Limbs of Panchanga are Vaar ,Nakshtra, Tithi, Karana & Yoga. These five elements are very effectively used for astrological predictions.
5 limbs of Panchanga are related to the Pancha Tatwa or 5 elements of the Universe.
Panchanga and Pancha Tatwas:
Vaar/Day - Fire
Nakshtra - Air
Karana - Earth
Yoga - Ether
Tithi - Water
5 Limbs Of Panchanga :
โขVaar (Day of the week) - Panchang follows a seven-day week and modulates auspicious events, dates and occasions based on it. The 7-day week starts from Sunday to Saturday and are named after their representative planets. panchang.astrosage.com/panchang
โขNakshatra (Lunar Mansions) -
Nakshatras are group of 27 stars forming a zodiac sign. They are analysed according to the Moonโs position.
โขYogaย (Luni-Solar Day) - A yoga is calculated by summing the Longitude of Moon & Sun and divided into 27 parts in 13ยฐ20'.
โขKarana (Half Lunar Day) - The half of a Yoga is called Karana. 2 Karanas make a Date or Tithi, totalling to 11 Karanas in all. 4 of them are fixed, and remaining 7 are movable.
โขTithiย (The Lunar Day) - It refers to position of Moon in Shukla Paksha & Krishna Paksha.
Tithi In Panchang :
Tithi or Date as one of the major concepts when observing Hindu Panchang.There are 30 Tithis in a Lunar month.
Tithi is the time taken by the Moon in increasing its distance from the Sun by 12 degrees. The complete revolution of the Moon -
occupies 30 Tithis for 360 degrees. When the Moon moves towards the Sun its Krishna Paksha (waning phase) with 15 Tithis and when the Moon Moves away from the Sun its Suklapaksha ( Waxing Phase) with 15 Tithis.
PHASES (PAKSHA) OF MOON โ
According to the Hindu calendar, a fortnight or the lunar phase of the month is called as the Paksha or phase of the Moon. A lunar month in the Hindu calendar has 2 phases (Paksha) of the month and each phase of the moon lasts for 15 days.
Each day Moon traverse 12 degrees in 30 days Moon completes one revolution around Earth.
First fortnight between New Moon (Amavasya) to Full Moon(Purnima) is called Shukla Paksha (Waxing Moon).Second fortnight between Full Moon & New Moon is called Krishna Paksha (Waning Moon)
Shukla Paksha is the period of bright phase of the Moon and it is considered auspicious for commencing any new task. ๐
Krishna Paksha is the period of dark phase of the Moon and it is not considered very auspicious for commencing any new tasks. ๐
Name Of Tithis & Ruling Planets In Vedic Astrology -
1.ย ย Nanda (Ananda or Joyous) Tithi -ย
Prathipada (1st), Shasti (6th) and Ekadashi (11th) ( Fire tatva) ruled by planet Venus.
2.ย Bhadra (Arogya, Mangala or Healthy) Tithi โย Dwitiya (2nd), Saptami (7th) and Dwadashi (12th) ruled by Mercury ( Earth tatva).
3.ย ย Jaya (Victory) Tithi โย Tuesday- Tritiya (3rd), Ashtami (8th ) and Trayodashi (13th) ruled by Mars (Akash tatva).
4. Riktha (Loss or Nashta) Tithi โ Saturday - Chaturthi (4th) Navami (9th) and Chaturdasi (14th) ruled by Saturn. (Water tatva).
5. Poorna (Sampoorna - New Moon) Tithi โThursday Panchami (5th), Dashami (10th) & Amavasya (New Moon) or Poornima ruled by Jupiter (Vayu tatva)
These 5 groups of Tithis have high significance when casting predictions, providing remedies and proposing auspicious and inauspicious muhurats.
Tithi Represents Lunar energy and lunar energy represents mental energy and status of our mind.

A planet in its Balavastha fulfills only one-quarter of its promise which means that it is only able to give 25% of its result.
2. Kumaravastha or state of boyhood :
6 ยฐ to 12 ยฐ in an odd sign & 18ยฐ to 24 ยฐ in an even sign.
Planet in Kumaravastha provides for one-half of its promised result which means it is capable of giving 50% of the desired result depending of planet's placement in the birth chart.
