Rahu & Ketu are shadow planets in Vedic Astrology.
Rahu and Ketu are called as the north and the south lunar nodes.

As per Puranic hindu text during the Samundra Manthan when Gods and Asuras were churning the cosmic ocean for amrita ( nectar of immorality),Lord Vishnu took form of Mohini ( female) and acquired pot of nectar from asuras and gave it back to devas to retain their immortality.

While Mohini was serving the nectar to devas,demon Svarbhānu ( Rahu & ketu) set with other gods by changing his form and drank the nectar.
When lord vishnu realised he immediately took out his sudarshan chakra and cut Svarbhānu's head.

Drops of Svarbhanu's blood fell on the ground from which Onion and garlic originated.

In Ayurveda Onion & garlic is considered Tamasic & Rajasic in nature which means they are pungent in nature and result in increasing bile and heat in the body.

Excess amount of onion and garlic causes pitta dosh ( excess heat elements ) in body and results in indigestion and other stomach related health issues.

Although they are great blood purifier and has numerous healing and medicinal health benefits.

In Hinduism, Buddhism & Jainism,people who practices meditation and are on spiritual path avoid consumption of garlic & onion.
During fasting,puja and rituals we don't offer garlic & onion made foods to hindu deities due to its connection with Rahu & Ketu.

As per Hindu belief and Ayurveda over consumption of Garlic & Onion heightened aggression,anger, anxiety,increase in sexual desire, make people irritated, disturbed sleeps and drain energy due to not having any sattvic elements in them.

I've seen rahu ketu nakshatra natives do intake onion and garlic a lot in their food. Its even beneficial to them as well as onion and garlic has healing and medicinal aspect to them.
