UPDATE: 1st indication of NE focus on scanner has crews heading out of Tahoe to stage at Kyburz where other crews have been thinning fuel along 50. NO flights as of yet and no air coms coming in. Winds shifting SE at 3 mph. Follow this thread for updates all day. #CaldorFire

Division Delta: Happy Valley experienced slop over last night. Night ops were unable to make drops. SO extent unclear. Trying to get scout helos in area asap. No flights anywhere on fire at this time.

Focus continues on dozer and thinning efforts along 50 with crews staging at Kyburz. No flights. Winds still east at 7 mph. No updates on Happy Valley. Fire also remains north of Slug Gulch due to yesterday's heroic efforts. #CaldorFire

Additional dozer arriving for work above Slug Gulch, same area of last night drops. Line is holding. Safety officer check in: no issues.

While scanner still quiet, some general updates: #CaldorFire grew to 82,000 acres overnight. Red flag warning begins at 11 for gusts to 21 at 4,500 feet, highs near 80, RH low 20s. Remember conditions can be locally different especially off ridges and down canyons. #CaldorFire

Additional engine and dozer in Happy Valley working slop over from last night. Still no flights. Visibility on western lines still too low with east winds at 8 mph. No flights anywhere on fire. Hearing indications that AA crews may be prepping at ports. #CaldorFire

Residents along 50 between Pollock Pines and East towards Kyburtz will be happy to know there is a lot of law enforcement chatter checking in on patrols. Keeping a good eye on empty homes.

UPDATE: first helo out of Placerville approaching south side of Jenkinson Lake. Sounds like will attempt drops around crews working Happy Valley slop over, pending visibility. Will update.

Confirmed. Scout circling Slug Gulch and Omo Ranch Road. Strobes set out by ground grew as drop markers. Scout authorizing buckets with this improved vis. Helos will be on their way. Love to see it. #CaldorFire

While waiting on helos (buckets and a tanker) to arrive around Omo, scout helo heads over to just south of Pipi camp to check on ground crews. No helos needed here. Containment lines holding strong. #CaldorFire

Scout confirms fire has remained north of Slug Gulch, however there is more fire in two small drainages (west of O'Connor) than ground crews were aware of. This has caused slightly more concern than scanner indicated earlier this morning. First drop 3 minutes out. #Caldorfire

Based on scout report, this is a very rough estimation of fire line in the gulches and on the ridges above Slug Gulch and Omo Ranch Rd. Blue circle is new dip spot - excellent news that visibility is good enough to use a dip spot this close to line. #CaldorFire

3 buckets and 1 tanker all active here. One or more of these helos may be moving north to the 50 corridor soon depending on conditions. Sounds like other crews at ports also preparing to head to 50. #CaldorFire

UPDATE: engines moving to Stinson and Slug Gulch to defend homes there as more slop over heads that way and East winds continue. Helo tanker also dropping near here while buckets dropping farther down Slug Gulch near Omo Ranch Road. #CaldorFire

More crews heading to Kyburz. Clearing and thinning work continues at a feverish pace all along 50.

Additional crews again being called to Slug Gulch between Stinson and Omo Ranch. Tenders on their way. Chatter indicates some surprise the winds have not yet shifted back out of the West. East winds continues to threaten homes around Stinson. #CaldorFire

Another attempt to get a bucket into Happy Valley. Still struggling with visibility.

UPDATE: Helos can't get into Haooy Valley due to low visibility. This was 3rd attempt since daylight- all NO GO. Being reassigned now.

Dumps at Slug Gulch continue as fast as possible. #CaldorFire

Despite heroic efforts, additional slop broke line and is making a push towards Stinson just north of Slug Gulch. This is even with a chinook and four buckets dumping continuously for hours as well as feverish ground grew operations. Will be watching this closely. #CaldorFire

I very much expected wind shift by now. I'm STILL showing prevailing winds out of the East around Omo Ranch. Can anyone confirm?

Major coms issues. Sounds like open mic/ stuck radio. Helos needing to switch to backup Chan but not everyone is able to hear the command. This is a particularly bad moment for coms issues in the Slug Gulch fight. #CaldorFire

One helo appears to have lost ALL coms and has returned to base, safely.

Comms reestablished. One helo that was 'missing' is confirmed back at port. Everyone accounted for and safe. Additional spot fires in Slug Gulch identified. Drops continue. Fresh helos are arriving to replace those heading to refuel. #Caldorfire

Prevailing winds do show SW at 9 mph. However, clearly local winds in gulches in the Slug Gulch and Omo Ranch area are still pushing east, giving crews a very difficult time in shutting down this slop around Stinson. Good reminder that canyon winds are unpredictable. #CaldorFire

ALERT: Fire is nearing homes with NO DOZER LINES cut around them. Air drops switching to more direct defense here in Slug Gulch. I'm trying to identify exactly where the homes are but I believe near (or on) Stinson west of Omo Ranch. #CaldorFire

ONE additional helo being brought in, making these dip spots maxed out so no air resources can be further added here.

ALERT: Kyburz winds shifting S and SW, gusts becoming breezy.

4 more engines and a tender requested at Slug Gulch and Omo Ranch Road. Only 2 will be sent due to limited resources. Helo tanker back dumping near Stinson. Helo buckets running just north of Omo as well. All out effort to stop western spread. #CaldorFire

Not hearing a lot of coms from the north or east sides of #caldorefire. The winds have clearly shifted as cams over there are completely obscured by smoke. Crews corning to thin brush along 50. Air drops not requested but may only be due to visibility. #CaldorFire

I JUST caught the end of a north side com ... was a spot fire discovered along 50? Sorry I missed it everyone...

EAST SIDE ALERT: Fire is expected to reach Silver Fork Road just south of 50 (and Kyburz) within 30 minutes. You should have left long ago but if not, GET OUT NOW and head EAST. #CaldorFire

Update: air drops unlikely south of Kyburz as visibility rapidly decreases. While this is pretty bad news, remember conditions change rapidly. #CaldorFire

ALERT: triangle bw grizzly flats, sweeneys crossing, and happy valley still has little air support (1 helo, 1 ridge) due to visibility. Winds increasingly erratic. If you are still in one of the evacuation orders in this area (as pics tweeted suggest) get out NOW. #CaldorFire

ALERT: Spot fires have CROSSED Silver Fork road, largest is already a half acre. Air support unavailable due to low vis. Ground grew can't get to some of the spots. Again, if you are in evac order from Kyburz east and south this is your final chance to get out. #CaldorFire

Crews hoping for one more helo tanker to max out dip spots around Omo Ranch Road and Slug Gulch as they continue to try preventing westward spread, particularly towards the homes near Stinson that have not dozer cuts. #CaldorFire

Good News: visibility clearing up enough that fixed wings (the big boys) might be able to make runs around Omo Ranch! #CaldorFire

Defensive fires being put down at Fancher Christmas Tree Farm just east of Omo Ranch. To the west along Slug Gulch to Stinson crews continue effort to stop fire pushing farther west and south. #CaldorFire

Update: houses along Slug Gulch and Stinson now being painted (covered in retardant). Fire lines now touching both roads in spots. Unclear if structures have been lost here. #CaldorFire

Two full sized fixed wing tankers (big boys) being called in. Didn't catch coordinates but I believe it's omo ranch area. Will watch this. #CaldorFire

Important: Foot access NOT possible to spot fire north of 50. Air support not available due to visibility. Reminder this is just east of silver fork and is well established. This is the first fire north of 50 and it comes at the worst time of day. #CaldorFire

I need to step away for a bit. If anyone is able to find out whether the homes at Stinson are still standing please share. Also looking for more info on the increasing numbers of spot fires east of silver fork. Everyone keep eyes on spot North of 50. Back soon. #caldorfire
