My mom flew home last night on @AirCanada. She had huge issues flying here two weeks ago with delays/cancellations and hours at airport terminals with no food or water. Yesterday she left New York once again with an awful story.
2) The flight from New York to Toronto was fine but she had a connecting flight to London, Ontario where she lives. The lineup was so long at customs she missed her connecting flight, had to pick up her luggage and wait in line for customer service.
3) You can’t get through to @AirCanada on the phone (over 2 hour wait to talk to someone) so she called me crying. I DM’d an agent on twitter who said they would book her on a flight then next day but they could not tell me where she would stay overnight.
4) Mom then called me upset but said the nice ticket agent took care of her and got her on a 9:30 pm flight (the last seat). She waited until then, got on the plane but it didn’t get off the ground until 11pm. The pilot admitted that they were short staff by 600 people!
Hundreds of people have been told by @AirCanada to get to work and none of them are showing up. But, the airline continues to book flights that they can’t get off the ground. (Hi @nationalpost that’s a story you need to cover).
6) My mom finally got home at 1am Sunday. She said the airport was a nightmare. So many families cannot get home without incredible challenges and yetthe airlines continue to take their money. That’s a problem. And here’s the kicker: they lost her luggage too.
7) Mom is fine. She’s almost 80 years old, and in great health. But I was so sick with worry yesterday. I can’t lose my mom right now. It would crush me. But by God, she will never get on another airplane to come see us. We will drive there to visit her from now on.
8) One more thing that I need to mention: mom has many stories of the kind people that helped her at the airport. She said you could tell they were exhausted and working long hours, but she is grateful for those that were there. I thank all of them for their integrity.
