Did the Shias of Kufa killed Imam Hussain(a) ? : A Thread 🧵
Kufa was a city established in year 17th, 18th or 19th Hijri. When the people after the killing of Caliph Usman, unanimously gave the oath of allegiance to Imam Ali(a) in the year 36 Hijri, he decided to change the capital of Islam from Medina to Kufa after the Battle of Jamal.
With the efforts of Imam Ali(a) and his true Shia, like Ammar Yasir, Malik Ashtar, S’as’ah b. Shohan etc., the true beliefs of Shiasm began to be propagated amongst the masses. But a large number of these companions were martyred at the Battles of Jamal and Siffin.
After Imam Ali's(a) demise the treaty between Imam Hasan(a) & Muawiyah was signed, Kufa & the true Shia who were still residing there came under direct attack.
Muawiyah appointed Ziyad as governor of Kufa & gave orders to search out & imprison or kill Shia of Ali(a).
As a result, most of the renowned Shi’a left Kufa. (Ibn Abil-Hadid, vol. 11 p.44).
Important Shia like Sulayman b. Surayd, were placed in prison.
Another well known supporter and loyal Shia of Imam Ali(a) who was placed in prison and subject to torture was Meesam e Tammar(r).
This is how governor of Kufa controlled the people of Kufa, by instilling such fear in them that they would not dare challenge his rule and also by killing, imprisoning and denying the true Shia from amongst the populous of Kufa from assisting Imam Hussain(a).
Also, if Imam Hussain(a) was so sure about Kufa and its people, why did he first send his cousin Hazrat Muslim b. Aqeel(a) to examine the conditions on the ground? If Kufa was truly a Shia hub as claimed by others, why would Imam Hussain(a) need this confirmation?
When Imam Husain(a) left Mecca to Kufa, Yazid wrote a letter to the governor of Kufa, Obaydullah Ibn Ziyad, (son of Ziyad) ordering him to ‘either behead Imam Hussain(a) or take him as a slave!” and Ibn Ziyad killed the Imam and sent his head to Yazid. (al-Zahabi, vol 3. P.305).
Therefore, Yazid is the main perpetrator of the tragedy of Karbala. Most of those who fought Imam Hussain(a) in Karbala had come from Kufa. However, it is not true that most of the Kufans at that time were Shia.
Even Imam Hussain(a) never referred to the criminals of Karbala as his followers or ex-followers! Rather he called them the Shia (followers) of the children of Abu-Sofyan. On the day of Ashura when the holy Imam saw that they are intending to raid his tents, he shouted at them :
“Woe to you O’ Shia (followers) of the children of Abi-Sofyan! If you do not adhere to any religion nor fear Resurrection Day, then (at least) act manly in your worldly affairs.”
(al-Kharazmi, vol.2 p.38).
The murderers of Karbala also never introduced themselves as the lovers of Husain(a).They rather said: “Surely,we fight you for our hatred towards your father”! (al-Qondoozi, p.346).
They also called Imam Husain(a) a liar!: “O Husain,O liar son of a liar!”
(Ibn Athir vol.4 p.67)
Also, Shia means ‘follower’. How could one follow a leader but fight against him? A follower fights for his Imam, not against him.
Which follower would slay the infant of his beloved Imam? Which lover would ride his horse on the chest of his beloved Imam?
The late Seyyed Mohsin al-Amin very correctly said :
“God forbid! That the murderers of Imam Husain(a) be his Shia. Some of those who killed the Imam were people of greed with no real faith, some had allegiance to the evil-doers,
some just followed their chiefs who were allured by the love of Duniya, but there were no Shia or lovers of AhlulBayt(a) among the criminals of Karbala.”
(A’yanu-Shi’a, vol. 1 p.585).

The Sermon of Imam Sajjad(a) in Koofa : A Thread 🧵
Imam Sajjad(a), though so ill
and weak, was bound in heavy chains and
made to follow on foot. The heads of the martyrs were carried on spears. Soon they reached the outskirts of Koofa.
The governor, Ibn Ziyad, ordered that family of Imam Hussain(a) should be taken through streets of Koofa. The people had been told that a rebel had been defeated by Yazeed in Karbala. They
came out and climbed on
to rooftops to get a glimpse. There was widespread celebration.
Why do Shias mourn for Imam Hussain ibne Ali(a) ? : A Thread 🧵
During Moharram, we remember the sacrifice of
Imam Hussain(a) to save Islam. A majlis not only
commemorates the shahadat of Imam Hussain(a), but it also keeps Islam alive. We cry over the martyrdom of Imam Hussain(a) because the Holy Prophet(saw) also wept for Imam Hussain(a).
All our Imams showed by example that Aza-e Hussain must be established. The 4th
Imam Sajjad(a), never ceased crying for
martyrs of Karbala all his life. Imam Raza(a) organised majlis in
the court of Mamoon & encouraged poets to
recite marisa for sufferings of Imam
Hussain(a)
Journey of AhlulBayt(a) from Karbala to Koofa : A Thread 🧵
The heads of the martyrs were severed and carried on spears. The 4
th Imam in chains and the ladies of the Ahlulbayt(a)
, without their veils, were taken as
captives on the backs of unsaddled camels from Karbala to Koofa. Their arms
were tied with ropes behind their necks.
Koofa was the city where Imam Ali(a) had once ruled. When the Ahlulbayt(a) saw the walls of the city, they were reminded
of the time when they had once lived
there as the family of the ruler.
▪️The day of Ashoora is the day when Imam Husain(a) gave everything
he had to save the message of Allah.
He showed us we must be ready to sacrifice all we have for Islam.
▪️Imam left Madina to defend
Islam and to protect
the sanctity of the Haram of Allah,
showing ummah the Right from
the Wrong. In this effort his family, men, women, children, young
and old were with him.
As his true
followers we too must work together to spread Imam’s
message.
