CMS will meet shortly. The meeting is virtual because City Manager Marcus Jones is not letting the public in the Gov Center. Watch live here: facebook.com/cmsboe
The CMS meeting is flying by. They may actually get to the back to school presentation at a decent hour.
Technical difficulties have resulted in the meeting coming to a halt. I don't know what is going on but @crjeterjr just said "thank you @Hunt_Saenz"
The CMS back to school presentation is starting now. Schools open tomorrow.
Superintendent Earnest Winston is suspending the regulation that states high school students absent from 11 class periods will receive a grade of F for that particular course
CMS says as of Monday, enrollment is 143,411 students and that's 425 students fewer than projected. Kindergarten is furthest below projection at 714 students below projected enrollment
Former Ardrey Kell Principal David Switzer is now giving a presentation on back to school operations
Bus drivers will have a limited amount of masks for students who forget one
School starts tomorrow. Here's a look at current vacancies in CMS:
Teachers- 135
Drivers- 88
Nurses- 37
CMS has tightened up mask mandate exemptions to require a note from a medical provider.
Any student who tests positive for Covid has to quarantine for 10 days. Students who are close contact and masked due not have to quarantine if they are symptom free. Staff who must quarantine are eligible to remain in paid status.
A consent form for Covid testing will be distributed to parents. Students will not be tested without parental consent
Students will be able to go maskless when playing outside during recess
If someone tests positive within 3 months, they will not have to quarantine as a close contact
The Covid testing program will not be in place tomorrow. CMS met with their vendor for the first time on 8/12. There are also concerns about lab capacity. The program will be phased in. Unvaccinated employees will have to take weekly tests. The district is verifying vax status

No Mecklenburg County long term care residents have died of COVID-19 since February #MeckBOCC
Charlotte hospitals are not seeing increases in patients in the ICU due to COVID
Keep in mind when the county says only ~34% have received at least one shot, that is out of the total Meck County population, not the eligible population. People under 16 are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine right now
Just announced: The Mecklenburg County Health Department is closing Bojangles Coliseum for vaccine appointments on May 22 #MeckBOCC
The county is launching a partnership with Action NC for grassroots canvassing about vaccine availability and information #MeckBOCC
Health Director Gibbie Harris says the county is seeing some hesitancy but mainly a lack of urgency in getting a COVID-19 shot. The county is looking at ways to make it as easy as possible to get a vaccine #MeckBOCC
Thread: I spoke to Gibbie Harris today about Mecklenburg County's vaccination rate. Mecklenburg County is lagging behind several neighboring counties right now.
Yet vaccine demand is still incredibly high in Mecklenburg County. As you can tell from my tweets, open appointments in Charlotte go within minutes, not hours. Like last week when 650 shots in less than 5 minutes.
