3/21 Tailored to specifically secure a @SamouraiWallet seed phrase/passphrase, this kit comes with a storage envelope/tamper-evident seals, 2mm thick stainless steel plate, and seed phrase/passphrase obfuscation stickers. Both sides of the plate are used.
4/21 This backup can also secure any BIP39 seed phrase up to 24-words with these alternative stickers. One sticker for each set of 12-words per side. Additional plates can be purchased for storing an accompanying passphrase separately.
5/21 First, you'll need a @SamouraiWallet seed phrase/passphrase to backup. Never share your seed phrase or passphrase with anyone. Here is a video demonstrating how to download, install, & setup Samourai Wallet for the first time:
6/21 Once the wallet is setup, the necessary recovery information can be transferred to the RoninSteel backup. Make sure you have a Sharpie & spring-loaded punch. In @SamouraiWallet, navigate to the 3-dot menu > Settings > Wallet > Show Mnemonic to display the seed phrase.
7/21 Carefully place the sticker so the edges are aligned. Use the sharpie to mark the corresponding circles. The A-Z alphabet runs horizontally and the 12-word columns run vertically. You only need the first four letters of each word. Double check, stamp, & peel.
8/21 Once the sticker is removed, the information is obfuscated and just looks like some random dots. If someone were to gain access to this steel plate, they would not be able to determine the information contained here without a recovery sticker & prior knowledge.
9/21 On the reverse side, align the passphrase sticker and repeat the process. Double check the passphrase in app first (3-dot menu > Settings > Troubleshoot > Passphrase/Backup Test).
10/21 You will notice that there are rows on the top and bottom edges indicating which column the character for a particular row belongs. Then, peel the sticker off and the information is obfuscated.
11/21 Now, all of the necessary info to restore your wallet is secured in a durable, stainless steel medium and it is obfuscated. You can use the included red envelope and seal it with the included tamper-evident sticker. Then, store this securely as if it were gold or jewelry.
12/21 Let's see how well the RoninSteel plate withstands white-hot temperatures near melting point, 1,500°C:
13/21 The plate survived the fire test with very minimal warping and some discoloration but let's see if the information is recoverable.
14/21 The info was 100% recoverable! By applying a recovery sticker, the 12-word seed phrase/passphrase were both recovered. The recovery stickers are clear in the little circles so it is easier to see the divots. Using the tip of the punch, I was able to locate the divots.
15/21 Double checking my work with the wallet:
16/21 The @RoninDojoUI RoninSteel backup plate is durable enough to withstand white-hot temperatures or flood damage and still secure your wallet recovery information. The plate is small enough to be easily concealed anywhere in your home.
17/21 One plate can be used for a @SamouraiWallet 12-word seed phrase/passphrase or multiple plates can be purchased for 24-word seed phrase/passphrase combinations. The tamper evident seal on the envelope adds some peace of mind in knowing if anyone has accessed the steel plate.
18/21 By removing the stickers, the information is obfuscated in a way that makes it useless to anyone who doesn't know exactly what it is and doesn’t have the stickers to use. All in all, I thought this was a cool way to secure Bitcoin wallet recovery information.
7 months of continuous run time, even with a furnace-style filter in line. I'll probably start removing the fans & checking the boards every 90 days.
Decided to add a second ASIC using the existing infrastructure from the first install. Kept the enclosure pretty simple this time.
Even with a second ASIC, the noise levels are not much louder. The biggest difference right now is that I have the intake ducting disconnected because the air inside my house is cooler than outside. Right outside the door its only 55dB.

#bitcoin is fungible because #Bitcoin is neutral. It makes no difference to the network what gov't issued list denounces a UTXO. Applying externalities onto the network only serves to exclude oneself from the network, with plenty of room to route around the obstruction. #marathon
"Taint" is a non-quantifiable, opaque scare tactic used by rent-seeking chainanalysis companies to manufacture crises so they can sell their solutions for problems nobody has.
The existence of a traceable history for each UTXO does not mean it's non-fungible. This is where common sense accounting practices are conflated with fungibility.
