The sky high favourable approval ratings for @CPC_HQ in Alberta suggests Albertans have not figured out that @erinotoole & @jkenney as well as @Alberta_UCP & @CPC_HQ are the same. They all play footsie with #HateClub groups, & racists etc they all think alike. #cdnpoli#abpoli
The deliberate incompetence & willful ignorance -evident in contemporary conservative ‘leaders’ is shocking & a step backwards in every way for Canada. I am all for the progressive conservative leaders of the past but this new crop on offer is insulting to citizens. #cdnpoli
Therefore shocking, that @theJagmeetSingh & federal @NDP are campaigning with low ground mentality that poisons the well for progressive voters- even if they can’t win. The enemy of my enemy is my friend tactic is regressive/uncanadian.Jack Layton would be disappointed #cdnpoli
If a political party is willing to risk associating with Hate Groups-a known national security threat in order to win; Whether it’s yellow vest or proud boys or whatever form of ugly human association in order to win they do not deserve to govern Canada. #cdnpoli#elections
A diverse political culture is important for a pluralistic country like Canada- but there is a quality filter to this. Racists, bigots, hate groups etc are not a necessary part of this diversity. Vigorous exclusion of those voices from our politics is self explanatory #cdnpoli
If political leaders, parties & their members in @CPC_HQ or @Alberta_UCP do not understand this, then they are immature in their politics & power hungry rather than fit to govern in increasingly complex times. They will predictably make bad decisions for Canada & it’s people.
I invite my conservative friends to jump in on this conversation & perhaps provide a rebuttal-to the statement: It is counter to the interests of Canada-it’s national security & the health of its people to support @CPC_HQ & regional parties like @Alberta_UCP now #abpoli#cdnpoli
Please do address in-rebuttals the rise in hateful incidents as well as dog whistle terms from @erinotoole “like take back Canada” etc #cdnpoli or @stephenharper terms like “old stock Canadians” or Andrew Scheer speaking at Yellow Vest Protests etc @CPC_HQ connects them all.
When @JustinTrudeau was first elected, he did a speaking engagement at @UCalgary there were so many protestors there. One aggressive man kept shouting- I tried to talk to that man, letting him know that thousands came & wanted to hear the PM. The man just kept on shouting.
It was unpleasant meeting some of those protestors back then. They were not reasonable people in my estimation. They seemed vicious. This is even before the election of Trump. These people have now gotten even more aggressive. None of their arguments or positions make sense.
When I first came to Canada, PM Chrétien came to speak in #yyc it was an incredible thing to hear him. I was not a Canadian citizen yet & couldn’t vote but I learned about the tradition of civility in Canadian politics. What I see today is blind hate by some at rallies.
