Oh hi there #Guelph, I am back after a week off. I am still catching up on things, but it is safe to say that #COVID19 cases are beginning to ramp back up again.
Here's a look at where things have shifted since I left.
🧵(1/8)
According to @WDGPublicHealth, there have been 134 new diagnoses between Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin since Aug. 20.
The 7-day average has more than doubled in that time, going from ~6.5 Aug. 20 to ~13.6 Aug. 29.

According to @PublicHealthON, there were also 44 cases of the extra-contagious Delta variant confirmed in that same time span.
As for who is being diagnosed, it is the health units younger residents. For those under 20 and in their 30s, average daily case counts have tripled in the last week or so. Looking back to the start of August, case growth is even more drastic.

And as for where cases are coming from, looks to be close contact and community spread leading the way.
Pending cases have been left out because they will likely be determined in the days ahead.
🧵(5/8)
While I don't have the specific case numbers, @WDGPublicHealth says unvaccinated individuals were 5.2x more likely to test positive for #COVID19 between June 20 and Aug. 23.
I first got on to this story back in late February, pre COVID-19 lockdowns, following some amazing reporting by the Toronto Star on how numerous law enforcement agencies were using Clearview. (2/7) thestar.com/news/canada/20…
After reading this, I wanted to see if Guelph police had used Clearview as well. When I asked, I was told this would be an onerous task, and to file an FOI. So that's what I did.
FOIs can be slow in the best of times. COVID-19 has made this not the best of times. (3/7)
