...unclear exactly what kind of defense can be made in this terrain and I did not hear this discussed. There should be time here to plan something though as it will be hours before the fire officially crosses hwy 88.

ALERT: Resources continue to be called in to the Strawberry and Twin Bridges areas for immediate structure defense. Air ops will attempt to join the fight again but at this time visibility is preventing drops. Ground crews on scene, more on the way.

There are reports of more spot fires on the plateau N of Nebelhorn. I cannot confirm these specific reports. But, early morning heat maps showed spotting here overnight so I wouldn't be surprised if crews have been battling more throughout the day.

ALERT: Fire has crossed 88 north of Silver Lake. Ground crew: "we got numbers spot fires all over here across 88 in the Martin Meadow."
Clearly this is somewhat of a surprise as crews were just discussing the hours-long time frame they thought it would take.

UPDATE: Air ops remain unavailable for the spotting in Martin Meadows, N of Silver Creek on the S/E side of 88. This is due to winds and visibility. Controlling these spot fires will be up to ground crews alone, for now.

ALERT: E, Latest imagery appears to confirm fire is indeed on Echo Summit and approaching the ridge just above S Upper Truckee rd in the Tahoe Basin.

UPDATE: SE, recon helo: "there's a lot of fuel out here coming out of Martin Meadow all the way down to the north end of Silver Lake." He's referencing the spot fires that have popped up all over the Meadow.

UPDATE: Crews increasingly optimistic that work on the west flank (NE side of the "finger") will be wrapped up soon.

ALERT: N/NE, 2 new spot fires just west if lovers leap on both sides of hwy 50. Kicking off embers and started new fires. #CaldorFire

ALERT: NE, very active spot fires located SE of Lower Echo Lake along 50. Embers are being tossed and starting new spot fires. This is directly above S Upper Truckee in the Tahoe Basin. #CaldorFire

ALERT: NE, the front has moved through Echo Lake, crossed hwy 50, and is embedded along Meyers road in several spots.

ALERT: E, official speaking at presser confirms fire is in Christmas Valley and Meyers. No homes are impacted at this time. Crews also battling growing fire on Echo Summit. #CaldorFire

ALERT: E, Fire is below echo lake on the incline next to hwy 50 heading downhill to S Upper Truckee rd. #CaldorFire

ALERT: E, spot fires below Echo Summit on the Tahoe side of 50 have fully engulfed structures and are now crowning through the canopy of trees. #CaldorFire

I know this looks terrible but this is roughly the 3 broken fronts coming off echo summit. Each one is not necessarily continues as they are large spot fires. This just shows you the reported locations (approximately). Couple notes...

Line farthest to the right is the fire still up on the ridge, crossing 50 back to the caltrans garage. Middle line is "dipping" down towards the valley (but I don't think to the floor yet). Right line is the fire moving down the hill along 50. #caldorfire

I'm so sorry I can't get to all your questions about your specific home. I need to try to keep up with the fire movement. Please rest assured I post immediately when receiving info on structures. I've been doing this for weeks it just takes awhile. #CaldorFire

...Christmas Valley and Meyers, so many that it's impossible to verify them before the next ones pop up. On the other side of 89 to the east fire is running up towards the ridge. Fire is fully crowning here and is clearly explosive. At this point, and it pains...
